"I tapped into this song because until I was 18, 19 I really hadn’t been out of Wales very much, and then I was going to London with the band and doing these pub gigs. I had a couple of experiences in London where I thought, “This isn’t the way they do it back home!” Welcome to the Jungle is about this guy from Indiana [Axl Rose] stepping off the Greyhound bus and landing in west Hollywood somewhere – welcome to the jungle! In a romantic way, Richey’s Vauxhall Astra became my Greyhound bus when we all drove up, and the song spoke to me in that way. Guns N’ Roses were a massive influence on us in the early days."

"While it is sad to consider how young Vigo was when he passed away and to think of all the great films he never had a chance to make, it is amazing to think how we continue to remember this artist’s small body of work with such great admiration. This is a real testament to the power of his one full-length feature film, L’Atalante—a film that documents the early days of a newlywed couple who operate a canal barge. When I saw this for the first time, I was reminded of what it was like to see Citizen Kane for the first time: that sudden, startling feeling that you are watching something so far ahead of its time that it feels oddly out of place."

"I think Philip Kaufman is one of our most underappreciated filmmakers. His films are funny and sophisticated and are often very insightful explorations into sexual interplay among adults. Having read the Kundera novel a couple of times, and having seen the film many more, I am astounded by the adaptation. Though some disagree, I think Kaufman did justice to the source (not that it matters in the slightest). And is there a sexier performance than Lena Olin’s? Wow. The film is one of my favorites, but the true reason it made the list is that this Criterion release has one of my favorite commentaries in the collection, featuring Kaufman, Olin, and the great Walter Murch. Unfortunately, the Criterion edition is out of print."

One of the better Purge films (0 more)
Better than expected
Thought I'd check this out as it looked OK from the Trailer. The Purge films are a mixed bag, the first was very good, a couple of OK sequels but the last one released was very poor. Thankfully this is definitely one of the better ones. Race and class divide play a big part of this one. Chaos ensues as Purgers carry on after the 12 hours are up. Can the group get to safety and fight to stay alive.
Good to see something a bit different and the tension builds as the group try to get to safety. With no end in sight or help from authorities it changes the stakes. Worth checking out.

"Paul Newman, Milo O’Shea, and James Mason. I met Paul Newman a couple of times — he saw me in two of the three Broadway shows that I’ve done in New York. He came backstage and said how much he loved the shows, and I’ve just been a fan of his work forever. This [pick] was a toss up between this and Cool Hand Luke, another monster Paul Newman movie. There was something wonderful about his lost soul that he found in The Verdict. The [characters are] on opposite ends of the scale. Luke can’t be broken, apparently. He’s got that grin and that spirit. In The Verdict he’s already broken, he’s hanging on by a thread and hoping he can pull this out. Wonderful actor, underrated."

"As a huge David Bowie fan who was at the last Ziggy Stardust gig – when he said he was quitting, I remember turning round to my friend and saying, “As if!” – this BBC documentary from a couple of years later felt very special. And very new. It’s the document of Bowie in America, and gets you so close. He’s so vulnerable, sniffing – obviously taking cocaine – and looks like an alien; but when talking Alan Yentob through his old tour outfits, he’s still something of a chirpy cockney lad. The film also shows the sharpness and originality of his musical mind, especially when he’s directing his amazing backing singers through their parts. It’s fascinating to see him at work as a musician"

This is definitely a series that is better read one after the other--unless you have a really good memory for books.

I read book 2 around Christmas and had forgotten a lot of what had happened previously when I bought this a couple of hours ago and decided to read it straight away.

I remembered the east and west and the two members that ruled each side, that she had belonged to one but seen something that shocked/hurt her and she had run off to the other...and that was about it.

Sci-fi is not one of my favourite genres and because of that I think I'm going to end my reading of this series here at book 3.

Feels like it's 30 minutes longer than it is (1 more)
Rather dull and uneventful
Very slow burner
Thought I'd give this a go as it's just popped up on Netflix. Directed by and starring George Clooney as a lone scientist trying to contact a spaceship returning to Earth after a global disaster. The event on Earth is very vague with no real explanation. The film switches between the spaceship and earth segments for quite long periods. There just isn't enough story or action for the film. A couple of small action scenes and that's it. Which makes the film feel very long. The sets are nice and the space scenes look good. Overall it's a bit slow and predictable.

I was really ticked when The Clone Wars was taken off Netflix, but I understand that Disney's pulling all of their media from other streaming services. While I was going through my couple hundred movie, I randomly found the first season in my collection. Apparently, the DVD is now worth around $50.
It was always a massive bummer that we never really knew the details of what happened in the Clone Wars exactly from the films. This show fills in the gaps, not only showing Anakin and Obi-Wan's adventures, but several other jedi as well. It also introduced new characters, such as Ahsoka, and Ventress. The first season is solid and entertaining. I'm glad that it was kept in canon when Disney took over.

This has left me wanting so much more. And I really want Tarrick to be lying about not caring for Matthew. You can't make me want them to be a couple and then break my heart like that. I mean, I know Tarrick was a bit of an arse in how he treated Matthew but come on..?!

I have to agree with some other reviewers about having M/F sex scenes when I thought this was going to be M/M. I don't really like it happening but I didn't mind it too much.

I also can't wait to read more of this series and might have to splash out on book two just to see what happens next.
