So this is my third book by the author and joint favourite with Love to Hate You and my second read in the Destination Love series. I liked this one more than After the Rain because they got up to so much stuff and the romance was pretty cute. Slow going but inevitable because they were so great for each other. I absolutely loved the journey around Reunion Island--it sounds like an amazing place and I could easily imagine the characters getting up to the mischief they did on such a lovely setting.

I also loved the bits of humour that were thrown in here and there and I did have to bite back laughter a few times at the craziness of what was going on.

I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more of this authors books in the future.

Apocalypse Now (1979)
1979 | Action, Drama, War

"Apocalypse Now is sort of a fever dream of a movie. When you watch the documentary about the making of Apocalypse Now, you suddenly understand what everybody went through while they were making that thing, and what a huge, unruly beast they got involved with, not even knowing what the movie was going to be. Everybody just decided to be a part of it even though it was just this evolving daily disaster. That being said, it is an amazing tribute to the film, that the beautiful cohesive piece that it is, is what emerged from that craziness. So many scenes that are just so memorable, the amazing lines, and how it just totally transformed war movies because it would have those incredibly realistic moments but also, you know, the huge “Ride of the Valkyries” helicopter attack. And it’s amazing that it worked at all, you know, besides the fact that it actually managed to work beautifully."

So a father leaves his kids-with a woman he's planning to marry- for a few days in a remote cabin. Just when his kids need him most(because their mother killed herself in the beginning) and goes off to work(at Christmas time). Somehow, he has ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA idea just how mentally damaged/unstable she is. This movie eas a slow, tedious, mind-numbing burn that just fizzles out in the end(horrible ending). The acting was decent and the cinematography was too. It had creep factor, I'll give it that, but the story was just... sad. These kids go through hell through pretty much the entire film because of this psychotic ex-cultist and it ends up being their last days. You genuinely feel bad for them, but overall this was just a weird movie strangely pieced together that built up to....nothing. Her craziness wins out. NOT worth a watch.

This book tells the story of a couple who buys an old farmhouse in upstate New York to esacape the craziness of life in NYC. The husband has major issues...the basis of which begin with his father leaving & the fact that his mother is a Jew who was born & raised in America. Yet she still manages to convince herself that she suffered through concentration camps in Nzi occupied Germany. The story gets interesting when Sol discovers an old, stooped over woman living in their attic. Big deal? Well, yeah. She claims to be Anne Frank.
Sounds like a great idea for a story, but to me it fell flat. At times I was interested & couldn't wait to see what would happen. Then it would just sort of ramble on for page upon page of nothing really happening. To me, the author was working way too hard at an attempt to be deep & philosophical. That ruined the promise of an intriguing plot line. It was okay, but I wouldn't read it again.

This is the very first Molly McAdams book I've read. I enjoyed the idea behind the story and loved that the characters were so versitile. The one aspect that made this book hard for me to finish was Olivia and Brody. I always got excited thinking this time he was going to smarten up and then she'd start up again with her craziness. Their interactions seemed extremely redundant to me and I found it painful at times to get through and even found myself skimming ahead. However, I did enjoy the book. I appreciate all the thought that went into each and every character and their backstory. Character development can make or break a book, and in this case it definitely saved this book for me. The characters and their lives are tragic and maybe that makes me weird but I love a good tragedy. This isn't one of my favorite books, but Molly McAdams has a lot of talent and I look forward to reading her other books in the future.
