I love this, this is such an easy watch that you can't put down. eveything about it is so silly and funny that you just enjoy each episode, The different stories and plots with creature creation and all so imaginative. What makes this funnier is that the voice actor for rick is actually drunk for his performances as Rick

Great fantasy film
A very enjoyable film, that is well directed and has all round good production levels. It's almost like two films in one running side by side. It would have been a bit more interesting to see more of the fantasy characters and their world in which they live in. The film can be quite bloody and violent at times to which was a surprise, this is definitely for an adult audience.

Simple Action Film
I was surprised to hear that they were making a film based on the Sega Arcade game. Which basically involved picking a huge creature and trying to knock down buildings while being attacked by the army.
This keeps the basic idea of that but it does mean the plot is wafer thin. The Sfx are very good. This is a pure popcorn action film not too be taken seriously and just enjoy the fun.

Another take on sleep paralysis. It was ok. The acting and cinematography weren't bad. The story played out well enough. Had some creep factor at times. Mostly though, this movie was kinda predictable. I've seen other sleep paralysis creature features. This one was not the best. The characters were kind of dull and the monster was just a very skinny "old looking' woman. That being said, it's entertaining enough for a movie night. Kinda worth a watch.

A short non-fiction ebook that draws comparisons from the magic written by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter series to the historical myths and folklore from which it's based. Invisiability, transforming into a creature, and warding off evil are just a few of the topics you'll find in this book.

I found this to be a fascinating read and would recommend it to any fans of Harry Potter who are interested in Mythology and Folklore.

Characters – Martin is the expert in the area where the photoshoot takes place, he knows the wildlife and how to deal with any threats that come his way and must protect the people who are not used to the threat. Dr Lindval was part of the research team that created the polar bear, she is desperate to survive once it is free but does know more than she is letting on. Brooking in the photographer on the shoot, he does lack the guts to defend himself from the threat. We also have the models but they are here to look pretty through the terror.

Performance – James Remar is clearly the biggest draw in this film and he is good without being his best, when you look into the other performance we get the mystery from Fenn and the annoying wimpy guy from Carlson hitting the marks we are expecting to see in the film like this.

Story – Group of people in Alaska with no escape must rely on one expert to keep them safe against an unknown creature for a set amount of days, well this is easy enough to go with and stops a lot of pointless discussion about trying to get help when there isn’t any, we also have the characters getting picked off in the random order like you would expect which is fine too.

Action/Horror – The action is mostly running from the attacks from the creature which isn’t the most impressive either.

Settings – The setting is the highlight as we have the group trapped with nowhere to run for the 3 days before the next plan arrives.

Special Effects – The effects look mostly practical as we barely get to see the monster apart from in the shadows.

Scene of the Movie – The first attack is a fun moment.

That Moment That Annoyed Me – We don’t see enough of the creature.

Final Thoughts – This is a forgettable creature feature that tries to ask bigger questions but doesn’t seem to want to try and answer them.

Overall: Not one of the best.

When you see a Guillermo del Toro film, you usually know you will be met with striking visuals, intense characters and ride an adventure you have never been on before. Such is the case with The Shape of Water.

The mute heroine protagonist is played with such brilliance by Sally Hawkins, she is sure to win an Academy Award for this film. The love story between her and her unusual companion is clever, unique and so engaging you cannot look away for even a moment.

Michael Shannon is also diabolical as the military officer determined to have his own way with the fate of the reptilian creature.

I wouldn't have minded some more backstory on the creature. It was said he was found in South America and was worshiped like a god, but that's all that was said. Some may argue the film lacks a significant point; however, I disagree.

Sometimes the journey is good enough and the emotional payoff after the climactic events was more than sufficient for me.

Frankenstein (1931)
Frankenstein (1931)
1931 | Horror
Iconic version of the novel by (it says here) 'Mrs Percy Shelley'; might even be definitive if the story was anything like the one in the book. The nature of the piece and its brief running time mean that characterisation and motivation take second place to atmosphere and incident: Henry Frankenstein wants to learn the secrets of life and death, and builds his own creature in the hope of bringing it to life. All does not go well.

Some parts of this film stand up remarkably well 90 years on: the sets, the direction, some of the performances (Karloff is obviously excellent, Colin Clive perhaps doesn't get the props he deserves); it's quite atmospheric. On the other hand, making the Creature mute removes any possibility of discourse between him and Frankenstein (which is really the heart of the novel) - this is a cautionary gothic melodrama without much interest in exploring the ideas that underpin Mary Shelley's work. Still, obviously, a massively influential movie, and well-done for what it is.

With beautiful illustrations and interesting subject matter, this book is a win-win with curious children. and although it is quite short, it fills a child with wonder and lets them take in what they want before progressing to more challenging reading material. Welcome to the deep ocean and explore the life and surroundings of this fearsome creature.
I am reviewing this book for Luann Columbo, Quarto Publishing, and NetGalley who gave me a copy of their book for an honest review.

"The ultimate prose book. There is no one greater or darker than Carson. This book follows a creature named Red who is part boy, part winged monster. It's a coming of age story about a Kafkaesque boy and the exploration of his body and sexuality. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. I used a quote from it to open the last book I wrote, "What's it like to be a woman listening in the dark?" That's the million dollar question."
