Andy K (10821 KP) rated Superman (1978) in Movies

Gets better every time I watch!
After purchasing the new 4K edition of the original Donner classic, I had to rush right home and watch it immediately!
Having seen this film way too many times, it is impossible for me to be objective I have discovered. I can look past the film's faults and just enjoy the countless classic scenes which are still imitated in superhero films of today.
The cast is what makes the films special including Christopher Reeeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman and even Marlon Brando.
It is too bad history never got to see a Superman II directed by Richard Donner. Who knows what that would've been. I'm sure it would have been amazing.
If you have ever seen the "made for TV" version, there is a LOT of additional footage there a lot of which is really good including the sequence near the end where Superman has to make his way underground to find Luthor's lair.
Reflecting on Superman now really shows me I remember it being epic as a kid and still leaves me in wonder as an adult. Very films can still do that.
And LOVE those opening credits... (bring back opening credits)

Wow... I've always loved anti villains but this was just fab! Very gory but who doesn't love some blood and guts in a horror!?? The whole movie plays along like Clark Kent: SuperVillain... and that credits scene with Micheal Rooker was amazing too. Hinting at possible sequels and/or a Injustice Leauge style group.
Back to the movie. The kid himself is terrifying, like seriously. If I seen him irl I would know he was a criminal or something. The actors themselves play the scared townsfolk very well. If I had to be disappointed at anything, it would be how stupid they are. I don't necessarily hate it but it annoys me in films when the characters can't put 2 and 2 together... everyone except the mother pretty much knew it was the kid and she was still in denial until she went upstairs and found visual evidence. 'No way! My son from another planet could no way have lifted a car or murdered people. Especially not after he smashes my husband backwards into a wall' 🙄
But apart from that, this could be one of my new horrors! I hope there is at least a second film, possibly featuring the anti-aquawoman or anti-wonderwoman featured in the credits scene.

A decent survival drama/thriller as a group of men try to survive a plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness with a pack of Wolves on their trail. Neeson seems to be the flavour of the year at present and does another good job here. The only problem is the story is a little bleak and tries to carry a message about death and the afterlife as well. Which starts fairly subtle before cropping up quite regularly towards the end. It has a very short scene after the credits as well. Reminded me of The Edge as well.

Very funny characters (4 more)
Parody of disney icon-er I mean fairy tale characters that make very quoteable lines
A great soundtrack by smash mouth
Cast chemistry
Although this is a kids movie there many innuendos that adults will laugh at
Shrek is very funny
This movie is arguably DreamWorks greatest film and most recognizable too.
The cast is great and almost all of the characters are hilarious and the humor is gut hurtingly funny.
One negative is the villain is not that great

The descent makes you afaird of going into caves

The descent- makes you on the edge of your set until the end credits. With a group of people stuck down in a cave no way out, their have to survive. But their not alone, creatures who are hungry for flesh, are also down in the cave. The survivors have to crawl out the cave before there get eating alive. The descent will make you afaird of going into caves, will make you afaird of small gaps and close encounters. The descent is a underrated horror movie, that horror fans should watch.

Very funny sequel

So after years of waiting for a sequel to the brilliant original and this year we finally got it and it just about surpasses the original.
All the original stars are back along with new and very funny character madison (played by zoey deutch) who is dumber than a box of frogs. The plot itself is very basic but that doesnt matter because the film runs on all the jokes.Hopefully there wont be such a long wait for a third film.
Oh and there is another hilarious appearance by bill murray this time during the main credits.

Essentially just more of the same but not quite as good. There’s still plenty of fun to be had here though even if the story is a bit on the thin side. Some very funny bits and gory kills as well as a crowd pleasing cameo during the end credits. One of the new characters Madison was incredibly irritating and I was longing for her to get eaten but luckily the addition of Rosario Dawson as Nevada to the cast makes amends for this. All in all worthy of your time for an easy fun watch.
