Story: A Prophet starts as Malik (Rahim) enters prison, he wants to keep to himself and get out quickly, but this doesn’t happen because crime boss Cesar (Arestrup) sees him as a potential new employee in need of protection on the inside, but in exchange Malik must do some of the dirty work for Cesar.

As time goes by Malik starts getting granted day release from prison where he must run jobs for Cesar, instead of getting back into normal life again. When things start getting out of control Malik must find a way out of this life before it is too late.

Thoughts on A Prophet

Characters – Malik is a young criminal, sent to prison where he wants to do his time and walk away from his mistakes, he isn’t going to get this chance as he gets recruited with the promise of protection on the inside. He finds himself doing whatever it takes to survive this, but can he find a way out. Cesar is the crime lord in prison, he offers protection in exchange for jobs to be done for him, he will kill anyone that crosses him though.

Performances – The performances in this film are fantastic, you believe each reaction and motive the characters must go through as things are happening in the film.

Story – The story follows one young man’s fall into the crime world from inside a prison, to where he must find a way out before it finds himself too deep. There is a religious element to the story which shows the tension between Arabic and Muslims as Malik is stuck between the twos battle. This is a by the book gangster style movie where the new person enters and rises up the gang only to want to find a way out too.

Crime – The crime world we enter starts in prison and shows how things can still be operated from within the prison walls if the ranks are high enough.

Settings – The film is mostly set in the prison, so you can see the world that can operate inside there, outside each process is where Malik is either sent or finding himself while going through the release procedure.

Scene of the Movie – The first kill.

That Moment That Annoyed Me – It is too long for my liking.

Final Thoughts – This is a tense crime thriller showing us just where a young man can fall into while trying to just get out of his own problems with a large amount of religious undertone.

Overall: One for the gangster fans.

Great crime thriller
A very good film, if slightly drawn out, that follows the story of the Zodiac killer of the 70's around San Francisco. The fact it is all based on true events and evidence will hook you in even more. It can be a bit slow but if you like cat and mouse thrillers you should like this.

Good revenge thriller
An often overlooked film with an all star cast, about a tale of revenge. Mel has to deal with con artists, bent cops, organised crime bosses and Lucy Liu as a domanatrix to get revenge on those who double crossed him. Quite violent at times but a cracking film. You'll like it if you enjoyed A history of violence or Running scared.

One of my favorite lines in this movie is the "Kung-Fu motherf***ers" line... every time i hear it I laugh for minutes uncontrollably... such a great movie with Gibson at his finest...

Spooky fun!
I love both Em and Christine’s story telling! I like that I hear old favorite stories from a new perspective as well as stories I’ve never heard before! I always want a glass of wine or milkshake after listening!

This crime thriller was just ok. I wasn't sure what to expect of it (it was listed as horror) but it was pretty much what the description tells you. Decent storyline with some good acting. A little predictable in some parts, but not so much it ruins the story. Pay attention, however, or you may end up confused. Overall this one is worth a watch.

I watch a lot of crime documentaries (even at this very moment), and this series definitely stayed with me. I was determined to be objective with all of the evidence, and yes, this was fairly biased. It was very well done, and completely engrossing.
The only thing that befuddled me is why Avery and Dassey didn't just ask for lawyers from the very start. Whyyyy?

A great action/crime thriller as a rookie cop joins the LA narcotics unit and has a memorable day in many ways. It's a very good film with some great actors and a decent story. It is quite violent at times, quite weird in places but has a tense great ending I really enjoyed. The same director recently done Brooklyn's Finest also worth checking out!

The collection of the first three Chocoholic mysteries plus the short story that was set and released before the series started. If you haven't started the series, this might be the place to start. The stories are light but fun and the characters are great.

This book takes the characters to New York City where they find fairy tale characters living in hiding. While they try to heal a friend, they get involved in a murder. This series may be for kids, but I just love the creativity each book shows.
