Rollercoaster ride
A rollercoaster through time and spirit!
This glorious piece of fiction isn't so much a flowing, chronological novel as it is a series of stories with little life lessons and morals throughout.. Witty and dark with an easygoing take on a heavy spiritual topic akin to Tom Robbins or Vonnegut, this is a must-read both for the rollercoaster ride of adventure but also for some thought-provoking spiritual qualms.

"Well, maybe that’s why David Heyman and Paul King cast me in Paddington, I don’t know [laughs]. You’ll be surprised by my fifth one, then. OK, try and find the link with this: Pulp Fiction. I think that’s the exception that proves the rule. I think it was great, it was such a breath of fresh air. That same year, I remember, I was completely enamored by two films: The Lion King and Pulp Fiction, so you couldn’t get more extreme than those two. They both have death in them, I suppose. But Pulp Fiction was such a great breath of fresh air when it came out, and I think it still remains such a cool and fantastic piece of the cinema. Obviously it was the second film after Reservoir Dogs that brought Tarantino into the fold, but I think it’s a gloriously slick and entertaining piece of movie-making, structurally and cinematically, with these great, legendary performances that were instantly loved, and instantly classic and endlessly imitated. The number of people I’ve seen doing Christopher Walken impressions — or Bruce Willis impressions from that movie — or indeed Samuel L Jackson… It’s sort of a great cinematic feat and [it’s filled with] dark, dark humor."

Evelyn. The razzmatazz. Evelyn.. (0 more)
This is my favourite book of 2017! Without a doubt! Join Evelyn telling her life story with a no holds barred account. This is an elegant story with the glamour and dark side of Hollywood. This could easily be about the actresses of old Hollywood with many people having a sneaky suspicion of just who it'll be about. If you like Hollywood, glitz and glamour, historical fiction and real life honesty about subjects then this is a must read book for you.

I've read Walton's columns at Tor.com with much appreciation, and realized with some ebarrassment that I haven't actually read any of her fiction. I tried this story as a starter.

It is extremely well written, but so chilling that I'm almost scared away from her novels! Fortunately, many of the comments on the story site do point out that her best-known novels aren't as dark as this piece. That's a relief, as I don't think I could stay away from such a marvelous author.

First movie of the year it's rather good movie rather bleak and dark and still mangers to tell a story that could happen. The fact the movie was made during the pandemic its rather apt there are simulaties between fact and fiction and the way scientists always think they are right and those who appose and think there's no comet heading towards earth. Plus there's a strong cast headed by dicaprio and Lawrence even Streep as the president of America overall good start to the year

A dark stain on human history
The story of Matthew Hopkins' sister is gripping from start to finish, almost gut-wrenching knowing what's to come. The witch trials in Britain are rarely documented unlike the trials of Salem. Hence reading this historical fiction almost brought the disgrace to life. You have pure empathy for the sister Alice, who attempts throughout to thwart her brother's evil plans. But it raises the question of complicity and innocence and how far gone Alice had crossed the line. Matthew's character is purely psychopathic, and he truly is a villain in every sense. A fantastic, detailed read.

Book Favorite

"This dark, fast-paced novel is a visionary masterpiece. It’s populated by hackers and cyberpunks, Gibson’s creations that have since become fixtures in the electronic matrix. I first read the book in the mid-1990s, when the Internet was beginning to wrap itself around all of us, and I read it with increasing excitement—but not without some difficulty. Gibson doesn’t bother to explain his terms or lead the reader by the hand through the puzzling dislocations of his futuristic landscape. Neuromancer is pulp fiction, but it’s guided by a hip wisdom about a baffling phenomenon that was only beginning to take shape."

Fun send up of film noir in pulp literature and los angeles culture in a frozen celluloid time capsule
Set in a decade where the comedy and homages work in todays modern popular culture. This unlikely pair lead the story in an unconventional take on the buddy cop/comedy as they work in opposition to each other to solve a dark crime, with a seedy leadup, all the while surrounded by the city of hollywood and its movie star culture. Something out of the pages of a detective fiction magazine. Post modern film noir in a brighter reflection of itself

I have always enjoyed Peter S. Beagle's short fiction books and these definitely are worth it. Even his attempt at the steampunk genre is pretty good. Some of these stories are a little on the dark side and slightly horror, however, you also get some action and adventure. It is a great way to visit some of his established worlds like The Last Unicorn and Inn Keeper's Song as well as find something new. Worlds that treat dragon's like guard dogs for drugs and the police that find them or a world that has humans communicating with aliens via a computer. It is a great travel from High Fantasy to futuristic Sci-Fi.
