loved the back seat the romance takes!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

I liked this book, I liked it a lot!

Xavier is sent to assess Alexandra's mental capacity to do her job, following the suicide of her detective husband. But things are not as they seem and Xavier and Alex are soon fighting her department as well as a child killer hellbent on driving Alex mad.

This is a dark book. Suicide, child murder and abuse. How cops deal with stress. And I liked that. I liked that it made me think about those things. I have no triggers though, and some readers might not like it.

Both Alex and Xavier have a say, and they have a lot to say about a lot of things! Both of them are suffering from things that happened but while Alex' is (mostly) clear from the start, it takes time to get the whole picture. Xavier's pain is far deeper and we don't get the whole picture there til much later. I like being made to wait.

The romance between Alex and Xavier takes a back seat to the crime aspect of the book and I loved the twist that took. I did think Alex would push Xavier away more than once and, Lord she tries! But Xavier is strong and even though the reasons he comes into Alex' life are beyond his control, keeping her safe is within his control and he will do that.

I liked this, a lot. It's the first I've read of this author, I would like to read more.

A WATCH THAT REVEALS MORE THAN JUST THE TIME . . . A mysterious gold watch propels 27-year-old Kathryn Frasier into a quest to prove her parents’ recent deaths were not an accident. Following a trail of cryptic clues, she encounters a remarkable cast of characters, including an actress with a talent for disguises, a politician with a dark secret, and a handsome businessman who shows a sudden romantic interest in Kathryn. Can she solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim?

My Thoughts: This is an excellent mystery that not only keeps the readers' interest but actually keeps them glued to the book. The amusing idea of the hunt for clues was fun for myself and I believe other readers will enjoy that also.

The readers will fall in love with the characters Kathryn and Cece, since they both have interesting personalities that the readers will enjoy.

This was a charming read a story of a young woman losing her parents, but gaining so much more as she learns to trust God and the people around her.

A great read for anyone, especially those who love a good mystery with a smidge of romance added in.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have been debating on what my rating for this book would be and I would give it a 3 1/2 star review so I rounded up to 4. This is the very first of A.C. Melody's books that I have ever read and I have to say, I will be coming back for more. A.C. Melody did what not many people can do, they didn't fall into the curse of the novella. This book is 114 pages on my nook. Generally, when I read a book that is less than 200 pages I do not feel connected to the characters, this was a rare occurrence where I found the characters enduring.

I tend to love myself a good dark & gritty romance and this was a lot of fun to read. The humor in here had me smiling and the characters were well done. My only critic was the ending but then again, the ending is what has me wanting to read the next book.

Ultimately, I enjoyed the book and I cannot wait for the next one in the series.
