A great introduction to the new Dark Universe this movie is not. Plenty of pretty decent action interspersed with a a few too many sprinkles of clunky comedic relief, and less-than-sizzling love interests, leaves you wanting a bit more.

New and fresh
loved this 1st series when it arrived, it was fresh and new and a different side of the DC universe that we weren't seeing elsewhere. It did will sticking to the comics and yet changing a few things just enough to keep you guessing. Great dynamic in shifting time frames.

An unpopular opinion

I've heard some pretty scathing reviews of this film but I really enjoyed it! Jean is a rich character in the x-men universe who really deserved her own feature. It was a darker film which harked back to original x-men and I enjoyed that immensely

The millions of fans of Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy have something to be very happy about this season: the start of a new trilogy, companion to the first, called “The Book of Dust.”

Pullman’s invented universe is a wonder to behold, but so is the meticulously drawn world of New York City in Julia Wertz’s graphic homage, “Tenements, Towers & Trash.”

Some treasures to behold this week:

Books about Russian history and current events round out our list this week, from biographies of Lenin and Stalin to Masha Gessen’s study of post-Soviet life, “The Future Is History.”
