Thank you to NetGalley & Ballantine Random House for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book kept me on my toes the entire time. I didn't know what was going to happen next. I'm not a person who understands the visa process in the US. So knowing the difference between a student visa and a work visa, I have no idea. I don't know how I would have survived if I was not able to work while I was in school. So I can understand Claire trying to find work where she can in order to survive.
Being a professional cheater catcher is not something I would ever do, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get by. But when one husband doesn't take the bait that Claire throws at him, first she is shocked and then she is happy for the wife. But the wife is not happy and seems scared. She has good reason because she winds up dead. Claire is determined to clear her name as the person who didn't kill her. She agrees to work with the police to find the real killer. But are the police in her corner or working with the husband who they also think may have killed the wife?
You never know who to trust in this book. Who killed the wife and why? Is the husband innocent? Is Claire? What about the police, can they be trusted?

Each episode entails all kinds of quirky murder mysteries in which Ned, Emerson, and Charlotte must solve together. As the season progresses, we learn more about each character and other sub characters such as Olive Snook.
We see Emerson in his flight to get in contact with his long lost daughter, Charlotte who tricks Ned into bringing her deceased father back to life, Olives unrequited love with Ned, and Ned who can never touch his only true, Charlotte, love again.
However, I will warn you, the series end kind of abruptly. The contract for a third series, for some reason, was cancelled meaning everything had to be tied up at the end when it should not have. It is rather unfortunate because it is such a good series.

The main characters in The Change, Nessa, Harriet and Jo, all start to manifest unusual powers as they hit perimenopause. Harriet grows plants, particularly useful ones; Jo becomes extremely strong; Nessa sees the dead.
These women are set to put the backs up of the rich and powerful men of Mattauk, and seek revenge on behalf of the ghosts of the dead women who suffered at their hands.
The Change has some seriously feminist vibes - these women are fed up of being talked down to and objectified and it seems nature is out to give them a helping hand. I have to admit to being more than a little jealous!
I was utterly hooked, and really didn’t want to put this book down - I knew something even more exciting/ traumatising/ mind blowing was just over the next page!
Part of me would love a follow up to this, but I also rather like the fact that I’m left wondering what on earth could happen next!
