Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles, #1) in Books
Jan 7, 2021
This is a pretty short start to the series, introducing us to Dina. She's a fairly new Innkeeper - a person with magic, who offers sanctuary to those from other planets as they pass through Earth - though her parents used to run one when she was little.
Something is killing dogs in her neighbourhood and she approaches the local werewolf, Sean Evans, to ask him if he will deal with it and he acts clueless so she decides to take matters into her own hands. Lets just say Dina gets more than she bargained for.
I enjoyed this. It was an interesting start with good introductions to the Innkeeper life and most of the characters included in this.
I was willing Dina and Sean on as they tried to take down the person behind the dogs deaths, and also for that spark of romance between them.
On to book 2

The plot: After reporting on the murder of a teenage girl, journalist Malcolm Anderson (Kurt Russell) is contacted by the killer (Richard Jordan) known as the "Numbers Murderer," who offers exclusive information about the deaths. With the cooperation of the police, who tape the killer's phone calls, Malcolm agrees and soon becomes famous. Jealous of the attention the journalist is receiving for his coverage, the Numbers Murderer kidnaps Malcolm's girlfriend, Christine (Mariel Hemingway).
The film was named after the term of the same name that refers to a pattern of weather that occurs in Florida during the late summer months. In order to achieve accuracy for the scenes that take place in the busy newsroom, the filmmakers used Miami Herald reporters as on-set consultants and extras and shot in the actual newsroom as opposed to recreating it on a soundstage.
Its a great crime thriller.

Charlotte (184 KP) rated Bolder Guilt-Edged (Zack Bolder #3) in Books
Jun 11, 2021
Warning: contains suicide and references to baby deaths/abortion.
Although this is third in, what looks to be, an interesting series it can easily be read as a standalone. There's a little back story on Zack Bolder, our main character, which is woven throughout this story.
I like that we're taken to Australia, it makes a change from the usual backdrops.
I found Zack Bolder likeable with a well written character.....a good depth to him without feeling as though you might drown. And Wellbeck, the strong, sarcastic detective, is quite an interesting character.
The working/personal relationship Bolder has with Wellbeck is just as good, they interact well together, bounce ideas off of each other and have each others back.
With adult themes throughout (not to mention creepy demons etc) I would recommend this for a more mature audience.

The plot: When his mother, Renee (Darlanne Fluegel), dies, young Jeff Matthews (Edward Furlong) moves back to his hometown with his father, Chase (Anthony Edwards). Jeff grows friendly with Drew Gilbert (Jason McGuire) at school, who tells him about the Indian burial grounds that bring people and animals back to life, which led to the deaths of the Creed family who used to live in town. Desperately missing his mom, Jeff ignores warnings and buries her corpse, only to have her return in deadly zombie form.
Is anyone from the first one in this film, probley not. Im guessing not and is a new cast. Does this one even connect or relate to the first one, again probley not. It is its own movie.
I wouldnt reccordmned this movie.

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Final Destination 5 (2011) in Movies

I finally got round to watching it at home, and in all honesty, FD5 is actually pretty enjoyable! For the first time in ages, we are presented with characters who are relatively likable!
Plot wise, it's all very much the same, although it does spend more time with the cheating-death-by-killing-someone-else idea.
The deaths are pretty creative (that gym scene though) without feeling too over the top like previous installments.
The film ends on an inspired and unexpected twist, which elevates FD5 over it's predecessors, and arguably delivers the best overall movie experience in the series to date!
