A little OTT
So today was my first trip back to the cinema since COVID kicked off, and Unhinged was my film of choice (figured it’d be fairly quiet during the day - I was right). I had seen nothing about this film other than reviews on here and overall it didn’t make for a bad return to the cinema.

Let’s start with the major negative and positive, this film is ridiculously over the top. From the hammy overacting from Russell Crowe (who must have had a hoot filming this) to the excessive number of unnecessary deaths, this doesn’t hold back. There’s a good amount of gore and the car chase scenes are quite tense and exciting. My biggest problem is that the major of the main character’s actions don’t make sense and just become irritating when she does things that seem ridiculously stupid. Some things were that unbelievable that I was almost screaming at the screen in frustration (and only just restrained myself when I remembered I was actually in a public place and no longer in my home cinema 😐 ). However there were at least a few incidents that made me laugh too.

Overall this isn’t a bad film and was vaguely entertaining. If they had toned back the ridiculous aspects and made it more tense and believable, it would’ve been a much better film as road rage is a major problem for some people. Sadly I probably enjoyed and got far more excited over the Tenet and The King’s Man trailers beforehand than during this entire film, but it was still fairly enjoyable for my first foray back to the cinema.

Beautiful to look at
I never got to see this film on the big screen, which I'm rather sad about now considering how visually stunning it is. The effects in this are beautiful and simply amazing, and I really think this film is worth watching purely for these alone. It's just a shame the story is a little weak.

You can't fault a film that has Christoph Waltz in it, who is wonderful as always. The rest of the cast too are good although I think some of their characters are let down by the story. And this is the big problem - the story is rather weak. It makes sense to a point, but it seems rather lacklustre and is full of silly character actions and blink and you'll miss it deaths. The romance side too is very OTT and cheesy.

The story is also majorly letdown by the anticlimactic ending and this is my biggest issue. The film seems to build up to wait promises to be an exciting ending and instead just falters and winds down unnecessarily, where they've obviously decided to do a sequel baiting ending rather than giving us all the ending we probably wanted to see. Personally I was rather enjoying this film and would've happily watched another half an hour of them wrapping the story up satisfactorily rather than cut short with disappointment. Even the star name cameo couldn't make the ending better.

This is undoubtedly an amazing looking film and rather entertaining, it's just a huge shame about the ending. If it had been different I would've scored this higher.

Platform Seven at 4am: Peterborough Railway Station is deserted. The man crossing the covered walkway on this freezing November morning is confident he's alone. As he sits on the metal bench at the far end of the platform it is clear his choice is strategic - he's as far away from the night staff as he can get.
What the man doesn't realise is that he has company. Lisa Evans knows what he has decided. She knows what he is about to do as she tries and fails to stop him walking to the platform edge.
Two deaths on Platform Seven. Two fatalities in eighteen months - surely they're connected?
No one is more desperate to understand what connects them than Lisa Evans herself. After all, she was the first of the two to die.

I really struggled with rating this book as I’m so undecided how I feel about it. First it does need a trigger warning for Suicide as it’s a heavy feature through the book also Mental abuse. Oh god i honestly don’t know how I feel it’s definitely a book that compels you to keep reading and you just need to know what happened to this woman and the lives she’s touched or visits during the book each character has a story to tell even those you only see briefly. It’s a talking point and makes you really think! I’ve settled on 3 stars as the book was so compelling in not sure enjoyed reading it is the right phase but I definitely didn’t put it down.
