This is the fourth Nathan Cody book. However, everything you need to know about Codys background is nicely covered in Your Deepest Fear so there is no chance you will fail to understand the significance of some of the bigger moments in this book.
This is a brilliant dark and twisted novel. It has short chapters which makes it a fast paced read and keeps the suspense built up.
Our lead is again Nathan Cody who is back after having being on forced leave due to mental anxiety/demons he is battling from the previous case. Still not being able to be full active duty he finds himself drawn into another investigation which will have him facing his demons.
Wow the twists and turns just keep the suspense ratcheted up and glued to the edge reading non stop.
A MUST READ, an easy five stars and so Highly Recommended.

This is book one, a short introduction if you will, into a new series by Ford, Chinatown Demons, and I bloody loved it!
Spencer moved to San Francisco, for a last chance to save himself from his demons. Only to find himself working with a different sort of demon he never knew existed.
It's only short, this book, some 100 odd pages, but it pulls and tugs you in so far and so deep, you keep reading til you blink, and poof! The book is finished and you didn't see it coming! I loved that!
I haven't tagged this one as a romance, because, quite simply, it isn't one. Oh there is attraction between Xian and Spencer, but there is nothing else. Xian, though, seems to know something more is going on between him and Spencer.
There is something going on, that isn't made clear yet, much like why Spencer came to town from the LAPD. Hints are all we get, and I'm not able to currently put the pieces together fast enough, but hey! I don't mind that. Makes future books far more able to pull me in again, like this one did.
I can't wait to see where this series goes, and I know it will probably be some time before we get the next instalment, but I'll wait!
I'm sorry this review is short, but I'm in a difficult place right now.

Sophie is accused of doing something she knew she did not do, and is suspended from her teaching post. Taking a job in Florida, helping out a friend, seemed the best thing to do during that time. But she was unprepared for taking a lead role in the school and she was totally unprepared for Max, another teacher at the school, trying to get his environmental institute off the ground. They both have demons to fight, but will they be stronger together?
What I especially liked about this book was the slow burn between Sophie and Max. There was immediate attraction, sure, but Max thinks Sophie has ulterior motives for being at the school and he trusts so rarely. It takes him time to see that Sophie can calm his demons, and he, hers. They both just need to admit, trust and give in to each other.
Both Max and Sophie get a say, and I'm glad they did.
There is passion, heat and love here, but I found the smexy times were very much faded to black and I liked that. I do like the smexy books, sure, but I can also appreciate a fade to black book, if the story is a good one.
And this is a good book! It's a great book, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, my first by this author. I'd like to read something else, something with a bit more bite.
A thoroughly enjoyable 4 star read.
