Dr. Bree Mayfield-Watson is most comfortable solving chemistry problems and logically looking at things. She never signed up to find her boss murdered in a secured building and is considered the number one suspect. Who wanted him dead and why are they framing Bree?

Unlike most cozy mysteries, Bree is not your average amateur detective doing illogical and impulsive things to solve the mystery. Refreshingly, she uses her brain, keen sense of observation, and trusty notebook to analyze the facts and formulate who is the real murderer.

My favorite part was being caught up in who the potential murder was and then finding out I was so wrong!

Not what i Expected
A dark and gritty movie set in 19th Century London. Its basically a murder hunt with a lot of clever plot twists and side stories. The central 'detective' character is played by the brilliant Bill Nighy and it is he who must ascertain whether Olivia Cooke's character had good cause to murder her husband or whether she did murder him at all. It flows very well and you will find yourself drawn into the main characters life which is far from flawless. Well worth a watch if you enjoyed Michael Caine's Jack the Ripper.

Poor portrayal of Poirit
Huge dissapointment
I'm a big fan of Poirot and have seen many portrayals of the great detective, and this is probably the worst... John Malkovich however talented he may be - is not a Poirot...

I know the story of the ABC murders and I was still confused as to what was going on, so I can't imagine how it must have been for somebody that doesn't know it, it was over complicated in its narrative and writing and didn't flow in an easy to watch way.

I genuinely feel it is three hours of my life I cannot get back.

So having read / listened to a few YA novels recently thinking they would lighten the mood I went back to my usual pick of full-on serial killer gore-tastic and why did I ever leave!?! This is my thing apparently (not sure what that says about me!!)

I enjoyed this dark police procedural it ticked all the requirements, evil but clever killer, a determined but troubled police detective (not too much romance.) I listened to the audiobook narrated by CharlottMelen and appreciated the experience of not tripping over the Danish name pronunciation as would have happened if I'd read it.... Not for the weak of stomach.
