This is a step away from my usual fare, and my review might come across a little bit differently.
Kate and Brother Thomas are thrown together to translate a particular diary, written in the 1300s by one of the Knights Templar. There follows a chase across the globe, with some twists and turns along the way to keep you on your toes!
What I liked about this, was that there are MULTIPLE points of view. We get to hear from Kate and Thomas, but also the bad guys (plural) and what they are thinking and why they are doing what they are doing. You know I LOVE hearing from the bad guys!
We also get to hear from the author of the diary. I particularly enjoyed that, learning about the Templar Knights from the ground up.
It's multi layered. Written part in the now, and part in the 1300. It was almost like the different parts were circling each other, but getting closer all the time.
Because of the multi layered plot, it took me far longer than it would usually do to read 230 odds pages, but that's not a bad thing. I had to concentrate extra hard, but there was no doubling back to reread. I love when books make me slow down my reading.
It's not an easy read, and you really DO have to pay attention, but it was a very VERY good step out my comfort zone.
4 very good stars

THIS BOOK.
What an amusing read this was, absolutely hilarious. This book follows Jack Lancaster who is twenty something and having a quarter-life crisis, his life is a bit of a mess and he's not really sure what the heck he's doing. He ends up totally winging it and everything figures itself out eventually, apart from a few unfortunate events here and there.
I love the fact that this is written by a local author again so I recognised many locations and even buildings in this, one of the buildings mentioned is actually where my dad works.
This made me able to relate to the book more.
If you want a quick read, with a fast flow and lots of humour then this is the book to read.
Florrie and her family travel from Arrow Rock, Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Florrie and her brother Jem need to adjust to having a stepfather named Mr. Ryder. You learn a lot about the daily life of being on the Santa Fe Trail back in 1848.
Most of this dairy tell you the History of America during that time. Most of the dairy is down on the trail of The Santa Fe Trail. Though that like to learn about America History, this is good for young readers.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Last Christmas (2019) in Movies
Dec 28, 2019 (Updated Jan 5, 2020)
I figured out what was going on before the big reveal, which is why I think some people probably didn't like it. Overall I found it a heartwarming film that was fun and festive without being overly cheesey. So check it out even if you normally avoid Christmas films.
I was looking forward to a murder mystery style book with nuclear apocalyptic themes as both of those are things I find very interesting- but it was more like a bored man's diary where he constantly inserts subtle brags about how much of a ladies man he is or how strong of a leader he is (which he isn't. He rarely ever took charge in a situation.) The main character is unlikable.
You spend the whole book telling yourself that 'anytime now, something is going to happen', and it's not until the last 10 pages or so that anything does.
And the ending... The reveal about who was the actual killer... I'm sorry, but: What the f*ck.
