David McK (3600 KP) rated The Old Guard (2020) in Movies
Jul 14, 2020 (Updated Apr 11, 2021)
Netflix's newest (at the time of writing) action-adventure, starring Charlize Theron as the leader of a group of immortals (whose immortality can come and go at any point) that have been alive for centuries, if not (in her case) for millennia. Think a less Scottish Highlander, and with the immortals working together rather than trying to chop each others heads off.
Apparently based on a relatively-new comic series, you can also tell that this is a straight-to-TV affair, with it not *quite* having the budget or flair of a Hollywood film. It's also unclear just what happens if any of these immortals lose a limb - does it grow back?
Anyway, the driving force behind this is the discovery of a new immortal, just after the other's last mission goes sideways, with Big Pharma - in a plot development that will surprise no one - now out to see if they can extract the secret of their immortality from the group (who don't know it themselves).
Also definitely set up for a sequel: if it is half as good as this one, I'll be watching.

Wow!
Ella and Cadeyrn have been captured by the enemy, Ella has promised to get her revenge for their capture and her fathers death whatever it takes or how long she will make them pay. This is fairytales of the myth #1 Miranda Grant claims it is a dark steamy retelling of Cinderella it certainly is that!
I was absolutely hooked with this book ,I actually was disappointed when i realised that id finished the book, It felt that id only just started reading it! i find it very interesting some of the things learnt like i genuinely didn't know that a slave master in roman times were actually known as Domina/Dominus.
It certainly is steamy but i must say the sex scene of the threesome did actually bring tears to my eyes bloomin eck! A rather rough session!
I was fascinated with the growth of Ella and the discovery of her true self and the things she had hidden.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series deffinatly one i am going to continue to read, i am also going to look at some of Miranda's other series as they too look fantastic

Night Reader Reviews (683 KP) rated The Witches in Books

Awesome book. Will reread it to my children multiple times.
The Witches by Roald Dahl, like all of his books is a classic. While some children may find it a bit on the scary side depending on their age and mentality I read it to my toddlers recently and they did just fine.
This is a story of a young boy who goes to live with his grandmother after his parents sadly die. He was already close to his grandmother so the transition was not too hard on him. She always told him stories of witches, how they hate children and want to destroy them and also how to identify them, but he doesn't believe they are real.
One day he goes on a vacation with his grandmother to a hotel and discovered it is also the location of the secret yearly meeting of witches. Upon this accidental discovery the boy spies on them and learns of their evil plan. Now it is up to him with the help of his grandmother to put a stop to the evil witches.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 or 5 out of 5 and highly recommend it.

Sci Fi With Feelings
143. The Discovery. Good pick on my part I really must say! Its a drama with a bit of sci fi thrown in. And I'll admit, its a little on the sad side, but... So Robert Redford is Thomas a scientist who discovers proof of an afterlife, well actually he calls it another plane of existence, but ya know the media...lol... But unfortunately upon hearing this, 1 million people commit suicide... freaky right... but now quite some time later he's called his son Will, Jason Segel, and tells him that he's created something even greater... on the journey to see his dad Will meets Isla, Rooney Mara, looking like the Mother of Dragons, on a ferry to the very island where his dad has his new, umm, compound, saves her from a horrible mistake and forms a pretty tight bond, but... It was really cool flick, filmed in... The Biggest Little State in the Union. Like I said its on the sadder side, but I thought it was pretty cool concept and well executed, so there... filmbufftim on FB
