"I couldn’t say enough about how important and extreme as the music was, he was never unaware of this dramatic element of what he was doing. It was always staged in a way for maximum drama. There was always maximum drama whenever Glenn was in the building, whether there was an argument, or the music, or a discussion about high art or whatever it was. Branca was so responsible for so much stuff, for energizing this down town scene in a major way. He was one of these artists that you didn’t really experience his music unless you were in front of it. You could hear the records and The Ascension was some of his best work ever and it’s a great record but it didn’t sound anything like what it sounded like to stand in front of it at 110 decibels. He also started his own label and released a couple of the first Sonic Youth records. He asked us to be the first release on his label so there was kind of a mentoring thing going on there as well. It was definitely some of the most important music that was going on in New York at that time, because it was straddling all these worlds. It had one foot in the punk world, one foot in the art scene and then in the Phillip Glass, Terry Riley, Steve Reich kind of world of art music, he had elements of all of that stuff, and beyond all of it, just what he was doing was brilliant"

"This was a difficult choice. I did want something that was a disco album and could have gone for The Bee Gees’ Saturday Night Fever - you don’t get much better than the songs on that particular album. But then I thought about Michael Jackson and what he did and how he changed things. Off The Wall is Quincy [Jones] at the height of his powers producing Michael Jackson as he is coming of age. Michael had the most amazing voice and a sense of rhythm that no-one had ever heard before. It’s really something. I listened to it about two or three months ago for the first time in quite a while and it is flawless. Off The Wall was the sound of [New York super-club] Studio 54. I was too young to go to Studio 54 when it first opened but I did go later when they reopened it briefly at the beginning of the eighties. I stood in the same room just imagining what it would have been like - it would have been a lot more fun in 1977. So, that album, which to me is a more interesting album than Thriller (although again another really great album), captured the spirit of a generation and moved dance music somewhere. This discussion could go on for hours if we had time, about what happened with disco and funk, bands like Chic and Sister Sledge who I’m obviously a huge fan of, but, for me, Off The Wall was the album that defined that period."

This starts with Neil having a discussion with his Exy coach about people wanting to recruit him to their team and the thought of going into the limelight, when he's been on the run from his murdering father for years, sends him into a panic. But after some words and a few physical hits from his soon to be team-mates he agrees to go with them. What follows is a complicated mix of game play, mind games and secrets.

I couldn't put into words what it is about this story so far that has kept me reading because it's not exactly sunshine and roses - in fact it's quite the opposite - but I am so entrenched in the mystery of Kevin and the cousins and just what the heck is going on/going to happen next for this team that I straight away went and bought book 2 so I could find out - and at 99p each, this series is a bargain one.

One thing I will say is that I've never been so into a fictional sport before. Reading through the game about the 75% mark had me almost bouncing in my seat. I was very much behind the Foxes and wanted them to win so bad considering how unorthodox a team they are.

This does deal with some strong triggers such as drug taking, physical abuse and someone dies towards the end. It certainly isn't light reading but I am so intrigued by how their story line is going to play out so I'm off to start book 2.

Great social deduction game with a theme that matches perfectly. All of the different roles and cards included in just the base game gives a ton of replayability! Fast paced and discussion start right away unlike some social deduction games where you have to wait a round or two before key information is given. Only downsides I've had with this game are one... having to reassign the hidden roles 4 times in a row before the round started because I was teaching to a new group of 6 players and someone would talk or say okay to confirm their hidden role during the clue and means selection phase or the witness phase. Most games this would be an issue however, everyone got a huge laugh out of it and eventually the game continued as normal. The other issue ive run into is when you play with smaller groups AND the witness role, the witness will sometimes stop the game mid round because the investigators all used their badges/guesses and lost. Regardless of those things I've had only positive experiences with deception murder in hong kong and used it to replace resistance, mysterium, and secret hitler. A must have to any collection and if you enjoy it look for the undercover allies expansion!
