This book was trying sooo hard to mimic @Lost Stars (Star Wars) , you can't help but compare them. This definitely hurt this book.
Firstly, the author did not develop the two main characters' childhood friendship enough to understand the bond they had. Therefore, I didn't understand or care about the romance that developed between the characters. The story line was tired and predictable. The characters just weren't developed enough.
The only thing I did like about the book was the description of Bantuu, and the Black Spire Outpost. It's good background for Galaxy's Edge, the new theme parks at Disney World and Disney Land.
Also, the book kept mentioning Hondo, but he never appeared. How old is he by now? His first appearance was the first season of @Star Wars: The Clone Wars . From pictures, I know he wanders around the park.
So, basically, this lame-o YA romance novel was only worth reading for details on Bantuu.

Joy, Anger, Fear, Sadness and Disgust
Well, that was a brave move by Disney Pixar.
Remember the old Beano/Dandy cartoon The Numskulls? This takes a superficially similar approach, following the emotions (who are given form) of a young girl named Riley after her family move to a new city.
Typical top-notch animation with a message at its core - in this case, that every emotion (even Sadness) has its place - from Pixar

Unique music!
Heroine is independant!
Best in years!
Such a well made a beautiful movie. I fell in love with the unique music in this film and the beautiful animation. I can't tell you how many times I have watched it. One of the things I love most is the fact that Moana is not a Disney Princess. She is the chief of the village, on the same level as her father.

A grimm fairytale
I haven't been so completely drawn into a book since I read Michael Ende's "Neverending Story" (hell mend you Disney for what you did to that exquisite novel). This is a heartachingly tender story of childhood bereavement and bewilderment. The tale is so skillfully woven I walked every step of the story with the lost and lonely little protagonist.

A great, funny, charming family film. The cast of reasonable names (skinny John Cena Channing Tatum, Zendaya and the thoroughly detestable James F-ing Corden, boosted by Danny DeVito and others) don't detract from the story and make this a quite immersive enjoyable heart-warming family film. A Disney touch was added by including some songs that wouldn't have looked out of place in Moana or Frozen and helped keep the kids entertained.

Didn't hold my attention
I was really liking forward to this new adaptation of a classic story. Unfortunately it just wasn't very good. The beginning was interesting, but it didn't hold my attention for long. I think the main problem with this movie is that it lacked any form of character development. The action was great, but a movie needs more than that. Despite my high hopes the Disney version is still my favorite.
