Mega Man 11. The 11th true entry into the Blue Bomber's flagship series.

After 9 and 10 going back to the EXTREME difficulty and the 8-bit graphic, Capcom decided to show Mighty No. 9 how it SHOULD be done.

The Double Gear system changes things up. One Gear allows you to slow time down, great for precision jumps. The other Powers up your weapons, like the X-Buster upgrade in the X series. Makes me wonder why they didn't make Mega Man X9(CAPCOM!!!!!!). The stages are twice as long as normal, so that is actually really cool. And the boss fights are VERY diverse, so much so going into the first one, you think the others will be similar, but they aren't... which isn't a BAD thing. But it mimics the changes in the boss fights from X8(CAPCOM!!!!!!!!!!)

Mega Man 11 rekindles my love for the core series, but MAKES ME WANT MEGA MAN X9 THAT MUCH MORE!!!!

And it scratch the itch.

In a bittersweet twist, Harper’s parent’s won the lottery the day after Harper’s twin sister died. With this windfall she is able to go to a very expensive boarding school of which she really doesn’t fit into. Or maybe she does? Just not in the way you expect.

When Kirsty the new girl appears, she and Harper get on very well. They have so much in common it’s unbelievable! And that’s just the point. It soon becomes clear some things she’s told Harper do not quite add up, but why would she lie to such a good friend? What could she be hiding?

I have to say this story surprised me, because I felt the pink cover portrayed a completely different theme to what I was expecting, which was a lighthearted YA/ children’s book, but the characters had much more depth and were so realistic, it was an absolute pleasure to read! I’m pretty keen to check out Cat Clarke’s back list and I know she has a lot more books out now.

In addition, Girlhood is a diverse read with characters from different ethnicities included. Yes, it is largely LGBTQ+ themed too, but it’s not the main basis of the plot, which is quite suspenseful and at times deliciously creepy. Like I said, not what I expected – in a good way!

Some people find spiders horrifying, others don't have much problem with them. I belong to the former group, and as such, found much in this book to creep me out. The story follows a large and diverse cast of characters located around the world, as a series of bizarre incidences involving spiders begins to point towards a larger disaster looming around the corner. With the cast featuring everyone from doomsday preppers to an FBI agent to an arachnologist to the President of the United States, it's practically a who's who of monster and disaster movie cliches. But thanks to the brisk pace and effectively gross manner of death, this combination of "Arachnophobia", "Alien" and pretty much any Roland Emmerich blockbuster winds up being very hard to put down. There are a few flaws, like some forced-feeling romance elements, and far too many of the characters being described as very attractive. The complete lack of any resolution presented by the ending is a bit of a disappointment as well, though I am left definitely interested in the next book. I don't know how much the type of person who would happily let a tarantula crawl up their arm will get out of this, but for everyone else, you will likely find yourself checking the corners of your walls for a couple days after finishing.
