Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: Nocturne in Books
Jan 12, 2018
There are some great ideas buried in Nocturne, unfortunately, they are buried in Doctor Who tropes as old as the show itself, making for a bit of a humdrum reveal and so-so listen. I enjoy my Who predictable from time to time, but this was just a bit too much, detracting from the proceedings and leaving me cold. Also tired of Ace and Hex stories set against a war backdrop. Just as good the 2nd time around, this forms the first part of 2. Difficult to review them separately, other than to say Nick Briggs has managed to pick up these little threads from so many other Doctor Who tales over the years and weave them together into a stunning story. Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith crush it (as usual)... and then you get to that cliffhanger...

The kick off to a young adult line of mystery novels featuring the Brig's granddaughter Lucy Wilson, this has the set-up feel of the Sarah Jane Adventures, with a slightly more adult tone. Not much more, as these are designed to be aimed at the younger set, but feel more Doctor Who in the peril thrown at our heroine. An enjoyable read that also manages to expand the Brig-verse. Highly recommended! For more, visit www.travelingthevortex.com

Probably my favourite of the second doctor era at one point I never thought I would see it as was lost from the archives till it was discovered in Nigeria it has all the ingredients for a classic base under siege alien threat namely the yeti and Patrick troughton at his best this story Introduces Lethbridge Stewart who would be part of the show in the 70s with unit overall good story

Takes me. Back to my childhood happy memories I shouldn't admit to liking rainbow but it was part of your childhood thru the 70s and 80s and you're favourite character on the show was zippy still don't what he was meant to be actually. years later I found out the voice of zippy and George the pink hippo also voiced the daleks in doctor who. anyway good for nostalgia
