Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: Orbis (The New Eighth Doctor Adventures) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
While not as epic as the previous 2 parts, this "coda" does a nice job of hitting the reset button for the 8th Doctor (who apparently, is the amnesia king having had it The Movie, several of the books, Big Finish's divergent universe AND again here).
Sure, the jelly fish and the mollusks are a bit silly and nearly panto, but it makes for a nice change of pace from the heaviness of Morbius before it. But it's the tragic ending that sells this for me. The idea that the Doctor screws up...

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: In the Blood in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Meh. Overlong, unneeded travelogue with the Doctor and Donna globetrotting all over the Earth... WITHOUT the TARDIS. Flying commercial airliners, just to have a plane crash scene, commuting by rail just to have a train crash scene. The main plot about evil aliens hiding within social media and feeding off negative emotions of posters (i.e. Nerd Rage) is topical, but doesn't fit Doctor Who. Not a particularly well told tale either, when I finally got to the climax it was more of a relief than a satisfactory ending. Was not impressed with this one at all.

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: Nocturne in Books
Jan 12, 2018
There are some great ideas buried in Nocturne, unfortunately, they are buried in Doctor Who tropes as old as the show itself, making for a bit of a humdrum reveal and so-so listen. I enjoy my Who predictable from time to time, but this was just a bit too much, detracting from the proceedings and leaving me cold. Also tired of Ace and Hex stories set against a war backdrop. Made to celebrate the first ten years of doctor who and to bring back the first two doctors William Hartnell and Patrick troughton in my opinion it's brilliant it's a shame William Hartnells role was reduced due to illness but still manages to give one last performance. which gives Patrick troughton one of best performances as the doctor showing us he's still got it and his banter with the thrid doctor at first frosty but over time mellowed. Stephen Thornes performence as omega is perfect showing a calm side then madness at a drop of a hat. Also watched in hd which makes it just as good as when it was shown 1973

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Lethbridge-Stewart: Mind of Stone (#10) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Yet another excellent entry into the Lethbridge-Stewart series that features a slow, but deliberate build to a breakneck climax. With a James Bond feel, it makes a great capstone to this particular season of books, all of which have been solid. Can't recommend these enough for Doctor Who fans, or fans of sci-fi in general. Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor Volume 4 - The School of Death in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Another enjoyable entry into the Titan Comics Doctor Who line, featuring the return of the Sea Devils in a major four part arc, and a stand alone fourth wall breaking romp that was so much fun to read. Robbie Morrison is doing a great job capturing the 12th Doctor's voice. Here's to more! For a more detailed review, visit www.travelingthevortex.com.
