I read a lot of fairy tails as a kid, but never have I read one this profound and unique: an ugly princess, a helpful dragon, a gifted farm-hand, a crazy story-teller, and an evil god trapped in the stones of an ever-changing castle. The language was beautiful and fluid and enchanting, the characters were all unique and special, and the plot itself had me sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. I never wanted it to end but I was so happy with the conclusion. On top of it all, the audio-book was wonderfully read, full of character and voice, and Simon Vance nailed the personalities of the characters. I have no doubt I will re-read this book eventually, and I am adding Barnhill to my Author Watch list.

AT (1676 KP) rated Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan- Season 2 in TV
Nov 11, 2019
I was really looking forward to finally sitting down and watching season 2 of Jack Ryan. While I did enjoy it, I didn't like it quite as much as I liked the first season. I'm more sold on, "Jim from The Office," playing Jack Ryan, Jr. this season. Lol I also like Noomi Rapace, whom I loved in the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film series. I liked the confusion and mystery surrounding season one. Season two did have that, but not in the same manner. This season, since we'd gotten to know a bit about the characters already, had a bit more focus on the emotional aspect of some of the things that the team went through. Overall, it was another good season of Jack Ryan. It just can't be directly compared to its first season.
Awix (3310 KP) rated The Court Jester (1956) in Movies
Apr 20, 2020
Lavish musical-comedy spoof. Humble carnival entertainer Hubert Hawkins (Kaye) infiltrates the court of evil king Roderick as his new jester, in an attempt to get the rightful heir back on the throne, little suspecting that the man he's impersonating is the deadliest assassin in Europe.
Feels very dated now, and it's spoofing a genre of films which is even more old-fashioned (e.g. the 1938 Errol Flynn Robin Hood). How you feel about Danny Kaye's clowning, cross-talk routines and patter songs will also affect your response to this movie. Still, you have to admire Kaye's sheer dexterity as a performer, and there is still a touch of genius about routines like the chalice from the palace and the flagon with the dragon. He's well-supported too. Technicolour vaudeville in the end, but still very funny in places.

I fell in love with Dex in this so quickly. It was pretty clear that he had feelings for Iris from early on and I was glad we didn't have to wait until 95%+ for them to get together like in some of the authors other stories.
I'm not a big fan of reading books that centre around MC's but this one is no longer the rule breaking, drug smuggling, beating-people-up club that it used to be and they are actually all pretty decent guys so I actually enjoyed reading about them going straight.
I also have a big thing for tattoo's so them working in a tattoo shop was pretty cool--I still think she should have gone ahead and let Slim or Dex tattoo the rainbow breathing dragon on her.
I cannot wait to read more of Mariana's books.
