The Pigeon Gets a Christmas Book
Santa needs to go wrap a few presents, but he leaves us with one request. You guessed it, don’t let the Pigeon drive the sleigh. And as soon as Santa leaves, Pigeon shows up trying to wheedle his way into driving the sleigh. Will he get his wish? Or will reality be different than his dreams?

Those familiar with Pigeon will love this Christmas entry in the series. It felt a little too familiar at times, but it was still fun overall. If you aren’t familiar with these books, the dialogue to us and stylized pictures will take a bit to get used to, but once you do, you’ll find the fun. I once again love that Pigeon sees his wish isn’t all he thought it might be, but this lesson is filled with humor. I can see this becoming a Christmas hit that is possibly requested year-round.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Three years ago, Lelle's daughter went missing in a remote part of Northern Sweden. Lelle has spent the intervening summers driving the Silver Road under the midnight sun, frantically searching for his lost daughter, for himself and for redemption.

Meanwhile, seventeen-year-old Meja arrives in town hoping for a fresh start. She is the same age as Lelle's daughter was - a girl on the brink of adulthood. But for Meja, there are dangers to be found in this isolated place.

As autumn's darkness slowly creeps in, Lelle and Meja's lives are intertwined in ways, both haunting and tragic, that they could never have imagined.

I couldn’t put this down! It was just so heartbreaking and so chilling! So well written it just kept you turning the page. I think this is all parents worse nightmare having their child disappear without any leads. Truly heartbreaking story of two lives being brought together.

I watched the film of Annihilation ages ago and really liked it. I’ve always meant to read it (and the rest of the series) but just didn’t get round to it. After being offered the 4th book in the series, I panicked and bought the first 3 (like I do). Then I read a review of the 4th book that said I only really needed to read the 1st book to understand what was going on in the 4th. Based on this book (and I’ve since read the 4th - review to follow!), I will probably read the 2nd and 3rd books at some point.

It’s spooky, weird and wonderful - horror at its heart! I loved how this incorporeal being is able to take over humans minds and bodies, driving them mad. Extra-terrestrial or spiritual/ demonic? Who knows, and I hope we don’t find out because it makes it that much more terrifying.

It’s a really tense, frightening book, and I loved it.

The Rest of Our Lives would appear to be another book that not too many other people enjoyed, but I did. It’s a book where big things don’t really happen and someone (in this case, Tom Layward) is pondering on his life.

Tom has dropped his youngest child at college for her first semester, and then keeps on driving. So, it’s a road trip of sorts. He visits people from his past, not really knowing what he wants from them or from himself. Tom is at a crossroads in his life: should he leave his wife as he promised himself 12 years ago when she had an affair? What’s he going to do about his job? And should he see a doctor about his health concerns?

It’s a meandering tale up to the point where he’s in hospital, and then the story would seem to have more purpose. I liked it, but then I’m one of those people who finds the minutiae of people’s lives quite interesting!
