Jcadden76 (64 KP) rated OverDrive: eBooks & audiobooks in Apps

Great for eBooks
Like having a public library in your pocket. I used it, primarily, for audio books. I burned through the unabridged selection very quickly and stopped using it.
The eBook portion of the app is really good though. You can port it to almost any ereader and again, it is free just like the library.
If they would have a better selection of audio books that were not abridged, I would be back on this platform in a heartbeat.

Ross (3282 KP) rated Amazon Kindle in Apps
Nov 7, 2017
The kindle app turns your high-tech smart phone into a (relatively) low-tech ebook reader. While this seems like a backward step, the added portability and the ability to sync your latest reading position on your kindle to your phone to seamlessly carry on is a massive advantage. This generally works but has on occasion been a bit of a letdown.
I have also used the app to store PDF files for things like zoo tickets or maps when travelling in case of poor internet signal meaning you couldn't download them later which worked well.

Hazel (2934 KP) rated Time of Death (Tom Thorne,#13) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
I am a massive fan of Mark Billingham and I absolutely love his character - Tom Thorne - neither have ever disappointed me and, after reading this, they still havenÂ’t. This book is ace as are all previous 12 novels. I am usually one of the first to the bookshop when a new one comes out but this time I was lucky enough to have been sent an eBook copy via NetGalley and I want to thank the publisher, Grove Atlantic, for this in return for an unbiased review.
For my full review, please visit my blog at http://readingstuffnthings.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/time-of-death-by-mark-billingham.html, thank you.,

Frecklesxoxo (6 KP) rated The Book of Shade in Books
Feb 27, 2019
I Received this ebook from netgalley for an open and honest review.
I started this book and thought ahhh it isn't my thing, I'll give it a few more chapters and i'm really glad I did, once they started going to the theatre imaginique it got really interesting! I love the supernatural aspect to this, how it's being connected to the elements that make you strong. It was a really interesting read. The only issue I had was there were a few sentences that didn't make sense, they had somehow become gobbledygook.
Other than that it was a really good book and definitely recommend it!

Sue (5 KP) rated The Ice Cream Man in Books
Aug 13, 2018
She is a divorcee that suspects the new ice cream man might be selling more than ice cream from his truck. He is an undercover cop watching the frazzled mom that is the prime suspect in a check-kiting case. Neither expects for a love connection and a sweet romance to occur while uncovering the secrets about each other.
While this book was originally written in 1988 and newly released on ebook, it still stands the test of time. I enjoyed the whimsy characters (her neighbors are a bunch of fun-loving snoops and gossips), the unexpected attraction and romance, and the touch of mystery.

The picky eater that I am, when I see a book such as this - that makes me want to eat everything on the page - they have surely outdone themselves! This is one of those books that seeing in eBook format makes me NEED to see and touch it. Images throughout this book are truly incredible - clean, fresh and beyond appealing. Love the simple, clean country look. Contains many incredibly helpful tips and techniques for both cooking and kitchen, that every cook or baker would benefit from as well as a collection of both basic and creative recipes! Steps are wonderfully detailed and illustrated - truly a work of art!

Micky Barnard (542 KP) rated The Wall of Winnipeg and Me in Books
Mar 2, 2019
Sports romance with a slow burn
Zapata has mastered the story line that builds over significant time to create the most believable relationship. For some reason, I don't mind a slow burn when she writes it. Aiden 'the wall' wasn't immediately a likeable character but alongside Vanessa, I fell for him. Vanessa taught him what it meant to care, to be friends. This book has left me with a grin on my face and an full feeling in my heart.
This was an audio and Callie Dalton does a great job on male and female dialogue. I will definitely re-listen or read.
2017 Ebook re-read, this was as wonderful second time around.

Beckie Shelton (40 KP) rated Silver Bells Collection in Books
Feb 8, 2018
I received an ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a romance anthology consisting of six novellas by various authors with a christmas theme.
I don't normally read short stories but was tempted by the festive setting which i do love. All of the stories were well written and engaged me keeping my interest throughout. They showed a snapshot of a time gone by and i found them very endearing.
If your looking for a light, clean, nostalgic read this anthology is for you. The six stories are all very different so there should be a tale to suit everyone, give it a try you wont be dissapointed.

Cyn Armistead (14 KP) rated S is for Silence (Kinsey Millhone, #19) in Books
Mar 1, 2018
I was extremely disappointed in the end of this book. In fact, it was so very out of keeping with the rest of Grafton's work that the next time I'm in a brick-and-mortar store, I intend to pick up a print copy and check to see if the ebook I read didn't leave out something important. There was no explanation as to how the murder was accomplished, or why. The reader was given no satisfaction at all. I started reading <i>"T" is for Trespass</i>, but if this book is typical of what Grafton is turning in now, it will be the last time I read anything of hers.
