Auburn (57 KP) rated Forbidden Thirteen (Forbidden Legacy, #1) in Books
Apr 10, 2019
13 is a number that can be both good or bad for someone. For Aria it tends to bring out her powers. Yup powers... See she is actually magical and doesn't know it until two hot guys show up and show her the way. You may be wondering, but no this isn't a 2 guys 1 girl story. Sure a love triangle is inevitable but it does get resolved.
In that time we get an adventure, magic, romance, and plots upon plots. One can never know till the end who is on which side and where to put your trust.
Truly this was a well written and inviting story with all the fantasy elements one could want.

ArecRain (8 KP) rated Star Project Chiro, Volume 1 in Books
Jan 18, 2018
One of the more ridiculous manga that I have read. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have requested it, but after a break up, what better to read than some bubbly manga to cheer you up? The only reason I gave it such a high rating was the art work, and even of that I have seen better.
The plot was thin and the characters psychotic. Any stereotypical elements that are found in most mangas can be found in this book. Except cross dressing....
I seriously don't know how this manga received such high ratings. Maybe it was because I was raised on Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Wing, and Blue Sub. No. 6 that I expect more out of mangas.

KatieLouCreate (162 KP) rated It (2017) in Movies
Mar 12, 2018
Acting (1 more)
Atmosphere
Not scary (2 more)
Not even the jump scares
Some iffy CGI
I wanted to see this film after I read the book in October. And for a film adaptation, it wasn’t half bad. Sure there were things obviously different from the books and they have set it out differently to the book. But all things considered, I enjoyed watching it. I just felt that for a horror film, it wasn’t that scary- not even the jump scares and Pennywise- he is legit scary in the book. Also, I thought the film would have been better if they kept some elements from the book in the film too, like Maturin. On another plus side, the acting was done well.

Lou Grande (148 KP) rated Marie's Room in Video Games
Jun 12, 2018
Kind of like Life is Strange, Marie's Room is the story of two girls--just without any of the supernatural elements. You move around (get this) Marie's room and piece together the events that happened twenty years before. The gameplay involves adjusting your sight with your mouse and moving with your keyboard, but it's surprisingly fluid. The goal is to complete Marie's journal by finding all the clues around her room. The soundtrack is awesome and included in the DLC on Steam. It's approximately an hour of gameplay, but it's a free game. There are no save options, as it's meant to be played in one session. It's a neat little visual story.
So much potential...
I read this book as it was recommended for those who enjoyed the book Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. The story had all the elements of a book I should love - fantasy, adventure, a challenge, a bit of romance, but I did not enjoy the book as I thought I would. I world Garber attempted to create wasn't fully developed. Where she tried to exude mystery and intrigue felt more like plot holes and underdeveloped ideas. The characters made extreme choices that didn't feel realistic, specifically the protagonist's sister. Overall, the book fell flat for me. It has all the potential in the world, but it fizzled.

Andy K (10823 KP) rated Halloween II (1981) in Movies
Sep 30, 2018
From suspense to slasher, but still delivers
After the original Halloween film paying ground with a lot of modern horror elements, the 2nd film really felt like a continuation since it begins simultaneously when the first film ends.
This one is more gruesome with more elaborate and bloody death kills, but those who are watching are expecting this to happen.
The film moves from the neighborhood from film one to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital where Laurie Strode is transported to tend to her injuries. Michael of course follows her there leaving a trail of bodies behind him.
Just as entertaining as the film film without some of the suspense in favor of gore instead.

Milleen (47 KP) rated Nine Perfect Strangers in Books
Nov 14, 2018
Liane Moriarty’s Australian backdrop is ‘Tranquillum House’, a remote health retreat that promises total transformation. Each of the nine strangers has some reason for attempting to unload some mental baggage and relaxing away from the modern world. They relinquish their mobile phones and laptops, cutting themselves off from the outside. A different kind of therapy is administered by the austere manager and what unravels is an unusual twist on Moriarty’s narrative, yet it’s totally entertaining. There’s a level of chaos and farce, mixed with darker elements that make this a compelling read. Not at all like the famous, ‘Big, Little Lies’ but more ‘Truly, Madly, Guilty’ in its delivery. Available in hardback now, paperback in April 2019.

Nickg24 (492 KP) rated Rocketman (2019) in Movies
Aug 15, 2019
Anyone expecting a biopic in the same way bohemian rhapsody was will be somewhat disappointed. This is more of a musical with elements of Elton's life thrown inbetween each musical number.
This film was never gonna reach the same heights as b.r did but does contain some very strong performances by egerton and bell as john and bernie taupin. The relationship (or lack of) between the young elton and his parents could have been explored in a bit more detail instead of just portraying them as the cold and unloving people they seemed to be.
This film wont win any Oscar's but is still enjoyable and worthy of watching.
