Short story collection consisting of various riffs on elements from HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos; you probably have to be fairly familiar with Lovecraft and his acolytes to get the full effect, as this does almost turn into a game of Spot-the-Yithian in places. All the usual suspects appear, along with excursions into more obscure areas (there's some excellent Hastur-related wordplay in the story featuring that part of the mythos).

Of the three authors, Tchaikovsky is probably the best stylist, McDonald manages to find some humanity and depth in fairly unlikely places, while Gauntlett is the pulpiest. None of them attempt to actually copy Lovecraft's idiosyncratic prose style, which is probably a blessing. None of the stories are genuinely inspired, but they're usually very readable even if they sometimes get a touch bizarre.

Painfully slow
A bit pointless
Disappointing
There will always be a lot of hype for a new Tarantino film. After seeing a trailer for a peek of Hollywood in '69 this looked interesting. It has a large ensemble talented cast playing many of the stars of the era.
Unfortunately there doesn't appear much point to this film until the last 15 minutes. Up to then it's very slow and overly long at nearly 2 hours 40 minutes long. It jumps from scenes of characters to others with little connecting them. I thought this was going to be a fairly accurate account of events that took place at the time... But it's far from that. It has its good elements but overall it was a bit of a dissapointment.

Yes it did seem a somewhat odd film overall.

Jesse Eisenberg has definitely paved his own path. The Double is another in what is becoming a long string of movies that are pretty far off the beaten path and outside the normal route of Hollywood stardom.

Jesse actually stars in two different roles, Simon James and James Simon. There were quite a few elements of the movie that reminded me of Fight Club, but not in physical form. More in regards to the mental aspect than anything else. The notion of "creating" an alter ego to live a world you formerly only dreamed of without consciously realizing that it's happening.

Bit of a mind bender, but in a good way. I love the stylistic approach to sets and costumes that the film employs. I've never seen a combination quite like it.

I expected this movie to be a copy of Black and Blue with slight variation and different actors. Turns out, the similarities just about end with the fact that both stories take place in Louisiana.

Body Cam follows a veteran police officer who is coping with the unexpected loss of her young son. She is assigned to patrol with a newer recruit when the cards come crumbling down and revelations begin to unfold in rapid succession.

There were some elements that I won't go into too much detail about so that I don't spoil anything for anyone, but I will say that if you have been putting off watching this movie for the same reason I did, don't. It's not remotely the same and it's actually quite good in its own rite.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Magnum P.I. in TV

2018 | Action, Crime, Thriller
Hawaii (2 more)
Cool Ferrari
Good action scenes
Cool TV series
Well I can guess the low ratings are from people who don't like it compared to the original 80's series. A female Higgins probably didn't go down well? I don't remember much about the old series apart from set on Hawaii, Tom Selleck, Ferrari and the English butler with the Doberman dogs.
20 years since that ended this is the reboot. It keeps all those elements, with a modern Ferrari and T. C. with an identical Helicopter.
Now that Hawaii 5o has finished if you want a light hearted action series in a beautiful location, this is it. Some good action scenes and cameos from the original cast. It's easy viewing, maybe not as funny as it thinks but generally a good watch.
