Book Divas (227 KP) rated Goth Girl Virgin Queen in Books
Dec 12, 2017
This well written story line pulls you in right from the very beginning and immediately puts you right into all of the action, the unexpected treachery and the paranormal elements. The author's world building and characters are right on. I gave this four stars because there were some times were the story seems to lose its pace and dragged on a bit.

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: The Justice of Jalxar in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Nice solid story with a lot of fun elements. The Doctor and Romana stop off in Victorian England and meet up with... Jago and Lightfoot, which EVERY Who story could use more of. The characterizations are wonderful and just as you remember, without all the prejudicial and racist overtones of Talons. The story may not be more than just standard adventure fare (alien tech falls to earth, gets misused) but a Judge Dredd style robot exercising justice based on how guilty you feel is a neat idea. Paige (428 KP) rated Tideland (2006) in Movies

I loved it. Everyone else hated it.
A dark, modern, American twist on Alice's wonderland. This really disturbing, cringe inducing stuff coupled with bizarre charm is part of Gilliam's gift, and I would argue this stands up to his most famous work. Though this is definitely a little smaller in stature than Brazil, it has it's own elements of dystopia- albeit on a more personal level- and hits a little closer to raw emotion. Not for the faint of heart.

Ruth Frampton (577 KP) rated Ghosts of the Past (The Bleiberg Project, #1) in Books
Apr 10, 2018
A graphic novel alternative WWII history thriller, this has some disturbing elements which may not be for every reader, but do add to the realistic element that these things would have happened. This first part of the story takes its reader on a grand journey which leaves the reader wanting to continue in the next part to find out what will happen to its characters. I can easily see this as a blaxploitation-style film, the spies, hitmen and nazi give you a real idea of what to expect.

Berlin book, but in an endearing way!

I loved this book and the author really added in some last minute plot that wrapped up very nicely, not sloppy! The ending is not at all expected but does have some elements that you, as the reader, do see in advance coming up.

David McK (3562 KP) rated The Transporter Refueled (2015) in Movies
Mar 3, 2019
The first Transporter movie is pretty much the definition of a guilty pleasure, due in no small part to Jason Statham in the lead role and some impressive stunt choreography.
The second and third? Largely forgettable, almost completely abandoning the limits of plausability.
This one is, essentially, a reboot of the series: the same basic premise is there; the same reliance on car chases and brawls in roughly the same setting (the French Riviera) and even elements of the same plot, but this one sorely misses the almost magnetic personality of its original leading man.

Mack (3 KP) rated Pet Sematary (2019) in Movies
Apr 27, 2019 (Updated Apr 27, 2019)
While it adds a couple of elements from the book that the original film left out, it takes a few too many liberties when deviating from the source material in other areas. (1 more)
The setup of the film takes far too little time, leaves many questions unanswered, confuses the average viewer that hasn't read the book, and lacks the ability to keep you immersed.

Amazing movie

Loved this movie, wow enjoyed it from start to finish and it didnt seem anywhere near 3 hours, loved the comedic elements to it, loved the closure for captain America, nice way to end his story, loved the emotional feel, especially for iron man, loved it 3000, understood the sacrifice black widow made, shame she didnt get the same treatment stark got but maybe that was due to her character getting a standalone movie after this whereas ironmans story is done, as I said great movie!!

Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Poseidon (2006) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
Billed as an antidote to those of us who didn’t like the romantic elements of 1997’s box office behemoth, Titanic; Poseidon had the makings of a great disaster film.
Unfortunately, a ballooning budget that ended up reaching $160million and a lacklustre story that featured incredibly wooden characters meant Poseidon sank like a stone upon its release.
It did manage to recoup some of that budget back through home video release, but Warner Bros. still ended up writing the film down as a massive loss.

Jan 30, 2018
This was totally amazing. I need to read more of this series like asap. I havent laughed as much as I did while reading this in a long time. I loved Lacie.. she was so much fun. I loved that she fought against who she was to become someone better. The gyspy flair and magical elements made it even better.. the fact that she fought for her son.. no matter what.. was even better. This is a wonderful story and I'ms o glad i got to review it
