A very good, solid film about a young white rapper, trying to cut it on the rap scene in Detroit. Seems loosely based on Eminem's background? There is a good supporting cast especially by Kim Basinger playing his mum. This will surprise a lot of people as it's not the the type of film most will expect it to be. Eminem plays the role well. Even if you're not a fan of his music or rap in general this is still a watchable film about someone trying to better themselves and break away from their humble surroundings.

Getting back to form
Eminem is getting back to form with this release, it's not up to his early standards but is getting close, the quality, speed and vocal dexterity of his rapping has never been in question but the material hasn't always been the best. This is an improvement.

The one thing it does lack is a song with a musical chorus to break up the rap - he has done this well with Dido and Rihanna in the past and something like this would have been a big plus...

Definately an album that has a replay factor, and not a one listen and put away disc.

Skipping that thin line.
Danny Brown looks and sounds like he's done a lot of drugs, but then so do the Rolling Stones. Atrocity Exahbition skips that very thin line between madness and genius and stays on the creative side more.

The beats are on the abstract side a la Kool Keith, but again, just enough to stay on the side of commercial sounding without being too 'alternative'. Then there is his voice and flow. Danny Brown sound cartoonish and ever so slightly deranged and as a rapper his flow is not exactly on point but it works. It all comes together and sounds very good.

Like Eminem, it's difficult to listen to too many tracks next to each other, but take them Indavidualy and you will enjoy this album extremely.
