The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Flowers in December (Flowers in December #1) in Books

Although Suen writes very nicely, I think she needs to work on the old "show, don't tell" part of her writing. Her protagonist Conner seems like a nice enough person, but overall, he's pretty bland, and I really felt that there were things that didn't fit well. Grief is a powerful emotion, and I felt that while reading this, that Suen held back and didn't let all of the emotions into the character or the story. Plus, there's a twist in the end that simply doesn't make sense. This could be a really lovely book, but I'm afraid it fell short for me. Sorry!
David McK (3764 KP) rated Dunkirk (2017) in Movies
Sep 1, 2019
Christopher Nolan's retelling of the Dunkirk Evacuation of May 1940, when the Allied troops were trapped on the beaches by an ever-advancing German army.
Told in 3 distinct over-lapping theatres: the Mole, the Sea and the Air, and with limited dialogue, I have to say (and I realise I'm probably in the minority here) I didn't really rate this movie all that much - to me, the shots of the British army seemed laughable small (I'm positive it was far larger than shown), while the constant attempts to pull on the viewers emotions just had the opposite effect, and the never-explained-very-clearly intersecting timelines just didn't work.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated A Midsummer's Nightmare in Books

4.5 stars.
I really got emotionally involved in this story and it wasn't all focused on the romance - which I really enjoyed BTW. No, a lot of my emotions mirrored Whitley's in relation to her parents. How blind could they be to their daughter? I think my heart broke for her a few times.
As for having great friends I really liked Harrison and Nathan and how they forced her to be better to herself and made her realise she did have people out there who cared.
I really liked this story and will be keeping my eyes open for more books by the author.

Charlotte (184 KP) rated Smith's Corner: Layla & Levi (The Heartwood Series #2) in Books
Dec 24, 2021
Holy fluff!
Oh....my....goodness!! This is as hot, if not hotter than the first in the Heartwood series. It follows on from Dallas & Delilah and I'd definitely recommend starting with that one as it sets you up for this.
My heart aches for Layla and I was rooting for her all the way, especially as Levi is so awesome. As with the first book there's a bit of hot loving and lots of emotions. With a deep, dark past waiting to engulf her Layla really struggles to trust and watching her transform is amazing.
Definitely an adult read with adult themes and trigger warnings.
