David Duchovny recommended The Godfather (1972) in Movies (curated)

The Godfather (1972)
The Godfather (1972)
1972 | Crime, Drama

"The Godfather. That’s two. One and two. Oh, it’s just epic, you know. It’s the best soap opera. It’s all those — you know, it’s the human drama and it’s exciting. And if it was done badly it’s like a soap opera in the afternoon, and you just realize that there are only so many stories that can be told, but when they’re told in the right way they’re beautiful and effective. So much of it is good, you know: The acting is good, the directing is subtle, withheld — so much of it in wide shots, with very few close ups. It takes balls to do that. I mean, it’s a different world now; close ups are the way people tell stories now. I don’t mind close-ups, I like them, but they’re kind of forceful — you see a lot, you get a lot of information in a close-up. There’s less mystery."

"I saw it at BAM in Brooklyn when they were doing a Schlöndorff retrospective, and I didn’t previously know much of his work but then got super obsessed with him. What’s cool about him is that his films are all totally different. The Tin Drum is a crazy epic story told through the perspective of this young boy, and the voice-over is incredible and takes you through his experience. A lot of people think the voice-over in We the Animals is a reference to Malick, but we’re actually referencing The Tin Drum. What I love about this movie and Ratcatcher is that they show an understanding of childhood sexuality, which you only really see in European films. The other thing that’s really important about The Tin Drum is the color palette. It has this incredibly vibrant, almost Technicolor palette. I showed the film to my DP and everybody that we worked with."

Fantastic
An absolutly gripping story from start to finish!

Jinji the wunderlust has been wondering from place to place telling tales of lost prince's and fae. This is until he is arrested by a solider called Yeston and taken to Queen Bareene of Amantier who plans to make these fairy tales stop, however nothing goes to her plan!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story I was gripped from when I first started, the description of jinji to start with is peculiar but as the story goes on you find yourself warming to him more and more as well as some of the other charecters. This friendships that grow the fellowships that form the hardships that have been faced have had me awestruck I have loved it from the first page to the last. Perhaps M.H. Woodscourt is a storyweaver themselves

I will deffinatly recommend this book to be read. An epic fantasy adventure

And now for something entirely epic... Of course I had to take a half day to go and see Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, and I wasn't disappointed. Well, not by the film itself, the music selection this time could have been a bit better. The opening sequence though... O. M. G. I love Groot. He is just so f*****g adorable... and yes, I'm sorry, but I did feel the need to swear there. I couldn't help but think that they were trying to make up for the lack of after film scenes in Logan though... because five seemed a bit over the top. It still amazes me that people leave before the end of the credits, especially as one of the scenes came on when they were walking out. There aren't many films that I would bother to see again at the cinema, even though I have my Unlimited card, but I'm probably going to go see this one again. It was very entertaining.
