Unfaithful (2002)
Unfaithful (2002)
2002 | Drama, Mystery
A deceitfully simple erotic thriller that goes from idle 0 to 100 so suddenly it could cause whiplash. A lot of things I love about this one: the trio of stellar performances from Gere, Lane, and Martinez; the way it reaches its cold tendrils into numerous different genres; and while it isn't as visually attractive as 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘭 (still looks great though, as is standard with Lyne) it's eight billion times more subtle. Though perhaps the highest nuance for a film that so easily could have been another anemic dump into the ever-sterilizing late-90s-esque trashy erotic thriller genre is how all of these events and the subsequent domino effect they set in motion don't really start out from your standard 'nondescript failing marriage' trope. This is a relatively happy, normal, even healthy family which still ends up... in an Adrian Lyne movie. It gives a false sense of hope and thus almost this feeling of normalcy, like even though you're a model citizen something of this severity could still somehow happen to you or someone you're close with, which quickly becomes rather traumatizing. Has a lot of solid banter and shit-your-pants "get me the fuck out of here" moments strung together nicely. Wasn't sure where it was going at first, but it all made sense in the end.

I don't have a tremendous amount to say about this book. I liked the characters a lot, I liked the tension and the curiosity of what would happen, I liked the story. I didn't love it, I don't have a lot of criticism about it. It's a like-able book. It doesn't merit my re-read shelf, but I enjoyed the story. I wasn't satisfied with the ending, but it did keep me thinking for days. All in all, 3 stars for enjoyment but for not being everything I like in a book.

Content/recommendation: Some mention of sex, no erotic scenes. Some occasional language. Ages 16+

Have you ever read something and then immediately thought to yourself “wtf did I just read?’ That is the best way I can describe Forstbitten. Half of the time I wasn’t sure what was even going on. The writing was so bizarre, vague, and all over the place, I am still trying to find the plot. I thought the erotic scenes could save it, but those were a mess as well. Everything about this book made it sound enticing. However, the execution was so poorly done, I am left wondering what drugs the author was on when she wrote it and would I understand it if I took them too?

Gooey Christmas Romance!
I really needed this style of book to kick my reading slump and man oh man! Did this book satisfy every need!!

I originally picked up Merry Inkmas for a buddy read, where I was only supposed to read four chapters a day. I ended up not being able to put down this steamy romance! I blew through it within a days time. And must I say, this was one heck of a read.

"This was a gift, and I’ve passed it on and on. There seems to be much confusion over feminism and how it relates to sexual freedom and erotica. WHAT?? Check out the liberated women of the ‘60s and ‘70s who were all about their bodies, choice, freedom and sex! This is superb, erotic literature and artwork for both women and men. It is an unabashedly joyful celebration of human sexuality in all its diversity. The artwork is beautiful and the poems and text a gorgeous compilation of sex with all the excitement — but without the mistreatment and objectification of women. A luxurious erotica alternative."

As always Cathryn Fox delivers with her intricate storyline, erotica sex scenes, and endless wit. I haven’t read a Fox story to date that I didn’t like and House Rules just adds to that long list. I didn’t know this was the second in a series when I started it and I felt that I missed out on little nuances because of it. That being said, you can enjoy House Rules without having read book 1, Private Reserve, though I would recommend reading it as well. I know I am.

House Rules is a short erotic read with a hot hero and low key naughty heroine. My only complaint is how short it was!

I have a soft spot for bounty hunters and space. Put those two together and you have a recipe for magic. This novel was exactly up my alley and I loved everything about it. After reading Katherine McIntyre’s Stolen Petals, I was jonesing for another story similar. This was a perfect match. With a fierce female lead and a deliciously devious male lead, the couple burned up the pages. It’s not erotic however, having a plot interesting enough to keep my attention when they weren’t setting the book on fire.

Overall, the novel reads quick, but it is rather enjoyable. If you like strong female bounty hunters and the men who love them, I recommend it.

A deeply weird and genuinely erotic little curio where a pre-𝘛𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 Robert Pattinson plays... er- *checks notes* Salvador Dali (donning all kinds of ridiculous wardrobe choices) who has a lot of gay sex and angrily paints all while spouting nonsensical metaphorical dialogue in a humorously cartoonish Spanish accent. Needed to be a little more controlled, leaner - I zoned out during at least one third of the talking bits, but it looks pretty! Not too shabby, I'll happily take this artsy oddball over most of the recycled biopic dumps up for awards contention today. Pattinson's full commitment to throwing himself at the wall for roles was evident even this early in his career.
