While there was nothing wrong with Barrett's style, I set this novel down upon finishing it, feeling that something was slacking. Yes, the erotic scenes, or what few there were, were well-written,and the plot line was interesting enough. And yet, I feel like there something missing from her work, just as I felt with The Viscount's Addiction. I cannot quite place my finger on it, yet it leaves me unfulfilled.

"Poet Diane Di Prima wrote this book for the money in 1968 but is is still an unabashed portait of Beat and queer life in the 1950's to the late 60's. It is an erotic travelogue of NY in the 60's and shines a special light on the New York Underground when being queer, feminist and an artist was still a way to be oppositional to the dominant culture."

"For me it is one of the most brilliant Mafia movies. Moreover it's the incarnation of the mythical erotic-romantic-tragic relationship between men and women. Beginning with love and ending with death. Isn't it the best description of this endless men-and-women love-hate system? And it's one of the best films about family as well. The protecting nest as miserable, dark shelter from an even darker existence of solitude."

"An erotic, mature political love story inspired by Pavel’s parents and the Cold War era they endured. I was enthralled throughout, by the sexuality, performances and lush cinematography. For me, it was a welcome return to Fellini’s “8 ½” and “La Dolce Vita.” And Joanna Kulig’s transformation from a manipulative teenage girl making love in the field to a plump, fallen performer with mascara running down her face at the end was breathtaking."

With a lot of erotic romances I've read they seem to concentrate more on the sex but with this collection, it had a fair amount of romance in it too.

I cant say I had a particular favourite of the three but I did like how we met the character of book 2 in book 1 and the character from book 3 in book 2, if you know what I mean.

this is a fantastic hot read, the chemistry between the main characters is flammable. this story has a strong story line with great characters, full of romance and erotic scenes. the secondary characters also play important roles throughout the book. this book is very well written and the author has a talent of making all the scenes believable. this book is a stand alone which means no cliff hanger endings.

An exciting and beautifully descriptive collection of erotic short stories that are not for the fainthearted. My favourites are The Dragon Keep and The Vampire and the Redheads. In the Dragon Keep, will Anya be rescued and return home? What will be the fate of the Vampire, in the tale of the Vampire and the Redheads?

A delightful read, Amanda's writing skills are mindblowing and admirable. I am looking forward to reading another of Amanda's books very soon.

"Buñuel films have had a huge influence on me, this one perhaps most of all. There was a time when I carried the book of the script around, opening it at random to absorb its perverse, funny tone and stare at the old black-and-white stills. Catherine Deneuve acts like she’s sleepwalking, but her character, Séverine, is wonderfully cool and disdainful as she gives free rein to her erotic fantasies, in dreams and in life."

I had such high hopes for this novel. It had a beautiful cover and what I thought would be a fascinating storyline.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. The storyline was boring and the characters were annoying. What I thought would be an engaging storyline actually almost bored me to tears. I was so disinterested that I found myself skipping large passages without even realizing it. The characters also left me wanting. They were so set in their ways that their personalities became obnoxious.

Not to mention the lack of heat. After reading the beginning, which was very steamy, I thought the rest would be just as erotic. I was wrong. When they leads finally did have sex, it was so bland, I had to reread it to make sure I didn’t miss anything. After that, any erotic scenes also fell flat with.

Don’t be fooled by the pretty covering and interesting sounding plot. Oh, and she isn’t really a pirate queen, by the way.

The Skin I Live In (La piel que habito) (2011)
The Skin I Live In (La piel que habito) (2011)

Operatically twisted (and twisty) erotic psycho-horror-thriller-drama from Almodovar. Brilliant scientist and surgeon (Banderas) seems to be keeping a young woman (Anaya) prisoner in his house, and performing various experiments on her (even his mum thinks he is insane). But the truth turns out to be a little more complicated than it at first seems...

Initially seems like much more of a plot-driven genre movie than is typical for this director, but the familiar themes (sex, desire, obsession, family ties) soon resurface albeit in somewhat modulated form. The plot grips like a vice, the performances are superb, it looks fabulous, and the (warped) sensuality of the film makes most so-called erotic thrillers look very bland and tame. This would qualify as a masterpiece, as good as anything Almodovar has ever done, except for the ending, which feels like a significant misstep, stumbling for conventional closure in a way that just doesn't ring true or feel satisfying. Nevertheless, a brilliant piece of film-making. (Do NOT read or hear a plot synopsis before watching if you can possibly avoid it.)
