Good introduction to the power of institutions
Owen Jones' essay is essentially an introduction to a vast subject that can actually be broken down in to separate books in itself. It is a hugely fascinating, disturbing and grotesque look into how power is welded by the few.

However I feel that he spread himself a little too thin, as Martin Williams wrote a similar novel in Parliament Ltd focusing on parliamentary expenses that was far more detailed and less narrative. This would have been five stars if it had been separated.

Let me preface this by saying that I might be biased, since I have loved everything Neil Gaiman has written. Still, I'm generally not a big fan of nonfiction, especially essays and speeches, and I have loved this. Part of that is that it is speeches and essays about reading, books, comics, and the people that made some of my favorite books and comics. There is humor, passion, intelligence, and nostalgia in almost every essay.
It took me longer to finish this than it usually would, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Interesting text book
This is a heavy but interesting read. I have actually studied it to death for an essay on hysteria. If any ladies have a secret desire that they might have liked to have lived in the Victorian period, this book might change your mind. Women were treated disgracefully. I think had I been around in the late Victorian period I would have been institutionalised and certifiably mad. Overall, good read for it's purpose but not for relaxation.
