Really good complex castle building game
really enjoyed this game. Must play once to know what you are doing. Lots to keep track of. Tons of great choices. Things can get quickly out of hand score wise. My wife doubled her score the 2nd time we played. It doesnt have charm of the final layout the original castles of mad king Ludwig has. But this one is more flexible and deep I think. Different games but both nail the theme. I love the timer mechanism of the game with the moats and the auction mechanic isnt as harsh. Great deeper euro. Worthy of a play.

Lives Up to The Hype
I've been hearing about Azul for a good part of the year, and I never thought the game could live up to its hype. But boy was I wrong. If you are in the mood for a complicated Euro, this is not going to be what you are looking for. But this has replaced Ticket to Ride as my go-to game for non-gamers. Most people can easily learn in just a few minutes, and do fairly well their first game. It hasn't been uncommon for someone to win their very first game, even playing against veteran players.

It's also refreshing to see that their devotion to quality parts. This easily could have been a $15 game with poor components, but everything from the tiles to the canvas bag impresses.

Excellent introduction to scythe
Artwork is great
Do you want to play Scythe, but are constantly with people who can't quite pick up the mechanics of it? My Little Scythe does an excellent job of scratching that itch, while still being really easy to teach. It can easily be taught in less than 10 minutes, and still has most of the mechanics of full Scythe.

The artwork is great, if you don't mind it being cartoony. The game will instantly draw children in, while stilling being pleasant to look at for adults.

Honestly, you will not find a more complete package for the price. Stonemaier managed to include an organizer, single player game mode, leaderboard (an addition that makes our games so much more competitive), and painting guide.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who is interested in a light euro or has kids.

Gaia Project
Gaia Project
2017 | Civilization, Economic, Science Fiction, Territory Building
Gaia Project is one of the pillars of the Euro-style games. It's an iteration/retheming of Terra Mystica, changing from fantasy to sci-fi. Every player takes a faction that follows the basic rules, but each have different preferred planets, starting bonuses, and abilities. GP follows the standard tropes of Euros in there is no take-that player interaction. You can block people off, use a once-per-round action before them. But you won't be able to directly attack them of course.

Every game is different. The Round staring bonus, round scoring bonus, layout of technologies to research, and even the map differ from game to game, an improvement upon Terra mystica.

This is a game that rewards multiple playthroughs, by understanding your factions strengths, you can focus on a multitude of ways to score, ensuring that Evey path to victory is a little bit different.
