Kristina (502 KP) rated Darkness and Light (War of the Fae, #3) in Books

I've had my suspicions from the beginning, but with some of Ben's words and actions, it makes me very curious. Like, for instance, is Ben actually a good guy, but is being forced to fight for the dark side? Or are the Dark Fae, as so many of the Light Fae have mentioned, not really evil, just misguided? And, if the latter is the case, could both sides end up joining forces and living together in perfect harmony?

Engaging from the get-go (2 more)
Intriguing lore
Moderate story
First book of a great series
I listened to this on Audible, and really enjoyed it (so much so I'll be buying the hard copy). Fae, magic, humans, adventure, romance and spiciness... A great combination! The narration on Audible is good, and I got sucked into the story very quickly. Highly recommended for anyone into fae and fairy stuff, fantasy, and magic etc.

Mere mortal. Fae hunter. Oh, and the apocalypse? Yeah, that happened!
She’s an unstoppable human. He’s an immovable beast. But the Fae have scorched the earth, thrusting it into unending darkness, and humans are next...
Through her research, University of Washington student Chloe Etain stumbled into an ancient war between the Light and Dark Fae that has culminated in her world being thrown into pre-industrial chaos. Dark Fae scum now roam free, feeding on unsuspecting humans. Chloe knows the truth though and, possibly, how to stop it. But as a mere mortal, what can she do?
That’s when the fates step in. Bram Tice, a fae hunting his own kind, vows to help Chloe. But he won’t say which Court demands his allegiance. Together, they set out to right the imbalance plaguing her world and save humanity before they turn into nothing more than remnants of ash.
This has been in my tbr pile for a while so I was looking forward to getting stuck in.
I can't really say I enjoyed it it wasn't a bad read but something was missing for me.
The storyline seemed to have a few holes and it was quite jumpy in parts (not the scary jumpy either 🤣 )
I will continue with book 2 as I don't like to give up on any series.

I wasn't sure about this because I haven't been a fan of books about Fae previously... however this book completely changed my mind!
I really enjoyed the pace of this, the nature of the story and the characters.

I have been looking forward to reading this book for awhile, the plot seemed just right. A cruel prince, a human girl, revenge, intrigue; it was all there. For me it did not live up to the hype though.
Jude was an inconsiderate, foolish, and all around incompetent character. She just rubbed me the wrong way. Plus I was hoping for a little bit of romance.
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the plot and the idea of the fae not being good. That is different than most fae books today.

This is the third book in the series about Freya and her sisters who have been turned into Frae by the cauldron as Freya and her mate and some friends continue their battle against the courts Lords to stop them destroying the human lands and being humans and Fae together. Freya discovers that destroying the cauldron doesn't stop the deaths and destruction happening and ends up forging the pieces back together. They lose their father in this part of the series though they find out that their father loves them even though they are now Fae. Not sure if there is going to be any more in the series. Very enjoyable YA book.

Fae: The Wild Hunt ( The Riven Wyrde saga book 1)

Sometimes the faerie tales are a warning. Sometimes they are true.
The Fae were banished so long ago they have become a myth, but the ancient barriers are failing. They are returning, and vengeance is within their grasp.
Klöss wants nothing more than to pass the trials and join the ranks of the Bjornmen raiders, following in the footsteps of his forefathers. But times are changing in the Barren Isles. Coastal plunder is making way for outright conquest, and the threat of war is looming.
Found abandoned in the forest, Devin leads a simple life. But fate, it seems, has other plans.
As his sleepy village transforms in the face of foreign invaders, whispered rumours tell of creatures in the moonlight, shadowy figures with eyes of amber flame. The Fae were banished so long ago they have become a myth, but the ancient barriers are failing. They are returning, and vengeance is within their grasp.
As the first battles rage, only one man seems to know the truth about the Fae, but can Devin or Klöss convince anyone before it is too late?
It was ok a lot of character and world building with action towards the end. Some interesting characters I did get a little bit bored in some parts but I can see what is trying to be achieved so worth sticking with at the moment.

Vicious Royals ( Nocturnal Academy book 3)
By Margo Ryerkerk and Holly Hook
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A sadistic vamp lord. A rebellious fae. A vicious hunt.
The first term of Nocturnal Academy is over. Majors have been assigned.
I've made choices that brought me closer to the guillotine. But the fight isn't over, not yet.
I must get through the spring term. Not an easy feat when the vamp students are planning a sacrifice and have a bone to pick with me.
But even if I survive the prison academy, someone will be buying my contract after school is out, and rumor has it that the king of sadists is interested in me.
Whatever he wants, he gets.
But if he thinks I'll go down without a fight, he has another thing coming.
I'll even ally myself with Thorsten, the vamp guard whose family the sadist has wronged.
But working together with Thorsten brings new problems. The handsome jerk seems to hate me, yet keeps putting his head on the line for me.
My mind is growing more and more confused with him while my body craves him.
If I'm not careful, I'm going to leave Nocturnal Academy not just with a slavery contract, but also a broken heart.
Dive into a world where vampires rule over fae, and one girl is determined to change it all!
This world is a hard one if you’re Fae. It’s pretty brutal the way these vampires behave towards the fae especially the female. This is the best one so far it’s fully packed with action and drama. Also the bombshell at the end I didn’t see coming. Well worth a read if you like fantasy but it may need a trigger warning for some scenes. I do really like these two authors they are becoming firm favourites.
