<i>Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God</i> by Alexis A. Goring is beautifully done. I am still reading it (on day/week 35) but I am loving how Alexis A. Goring combine’s real life experiences, the Bible, and songs that uplift and inspire. The songs seem to stay with me as what I’ve read keeps spinning in my mind. I love the reflections and her personal life examples, plus I have truly enjoyed the flow of topics in covered in the book. I think many of us can relate to the examples laid out in this book as they are relevant to everyday life. I also have enjoyed finding some new worship music

This book started out very slow for me, I know it is introducing a new series but I didn’t expect it. However, once the first part is over, we get some good characters, who have an enemies to friends relationship (As much as one can in an Amish lifestyle). They work through a lot of hang ups and overcome obstacles from the community, family and themselves. I think this was a good start to a new series and I am excited to see what will come next from this author.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars for the scene created, the interesting characters, and the overall theme of faith.

They’re full of the small moments in Lamott’s life, the observations that make you laugh really hard and make you bawl really fast—two of my favorite activities. She talks about how the most popular prayers are ‘Help me, help me, help me’ and ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you.’ I’ve read all her work, and she continually surprises me and speaks to me. One of the lines from this book that I love is: ‘All you can do is show up for someone in crisis. Your there-ness…can be life giving, because often everyone else is in hiding.’ That’s just killer."

I missed the Unlimited screening for Hidden Figures, but I finally went to see it this month. It is a truly amazing film. Pleasantly surprised would be an understatement, but I'm not talking about the film, I'm talking about the viewers. I had kind of expected the viewing age to average out at over the 40 mark. But by the start of the film there were a couple of parents with their children who were certainly under the age of 12. They were explaining things to them and before the film started they were chatting about all sorts of things that would be touched on during it... honestly, it restored a little faith in humanity.
