Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated A History of Violence (2005) in Movies

Raw, emotional, powerful drama
Apart from the fact I love Viggo Mortensen, this film is not one of those violent action films, but actually about a family drama. The story plot may not have been original, however, the dramatic effect it had on the family was powerful and emotional. It really does raise the question how well do you know the people you love? And not in a melodramatic way.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2065 KP) rated Hostage in Books

After a convenience store robbery goes wrong, the villains take a family hostage in their own home. Unfortunately, the family has secrets that will create a nightmare for all involved. The twist on the hostage drama started out good, but it fell apart in the end when it got completely unbelievable.

Cori June (3033 KP) rated The NeverEnding Story (1984) in Movies

Fun for the family
Surprisingly well aged even if some of the green screen effects are a little noticable. Still slightly creepy and inspiring. Gmork's monologue near the end is even more terrifying as an adult. If you're in the mood for something fantastical and a trifle silly and family friendly (except for maybe the sphinx statues) this is a movie for you.
Katey Bassett (610 KP) rated Everything I Never Told You in Books
Dec 10, 2018
Loved this debut novel, not only did I feel as though the story was one never quite told like this I really loved the way it captured real grief and how it can tear a family apart or bring them together and now race/gender is something that almost always impacts a persons life and outlook on things, especially in a mixed race family in the early 60s.

AT (1676 KP) rated Marriage Story (2019) in Movies

I enjoyed Marriage Story, for as much as one can enjoy that type of situation. It was frustrating and heartbreaking, and had some funny spots thrown in. It was a raw story of a family going through a divorce. (Granted, it was a family that had access to money for bulldog legal teams, so it was both, "easy," and ugly.) Adam Driver was great in his role as Charlie.
Cori June (3033 KP) rated Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019) in Movies

This is a fun family film. It did a respectable take on keeping with the show and growing so that parents and teens could enjoy this as well. The actors did a great job. It was hokey and fun. If you didn't grow up with the show or watched it with younger siblings/children you aren't lost in in-jokes. Highly recommend.
