Ross (3284 KP) rated The OA - Season 1 in TV

I didn't really like the first episode (the reappearance of a blind girl who disappeared years past, and is no longer blind), it didn't seem to fit in with the description of the series. However once past that it really got good, exploring what she had been through in the intervening period and what she now does when back in her old house/family/life.
The ending was complete dog muck though. All that potential just thrown away for smaltzy rubbish.

Poignant look at how Alzheimer's affects an entire family
A wonderful but tragic look into the downward spiral of a professor with Alzheimer's through the perspective of his daughter. With short bursts of journal entries and quirky anecdotes, she documents how quickly his health deteriorates. It's bittersweet for the most part, given the nature of the subject but it is juxtaposed with the unravelling of her own life, which becomes less significant when she focuses on her father. A great read.

A pretty decent black comedy/love story with a good amount of humour. Set in the swinging 60's in East London. The girls from the band All Saints star in this along side a good array of English acting talent. The girls look to rob places up town to get a better way of life for their family but get mixed up in all sorts of trouble way above their heads. An enjoyable film catch it if it's on.

A blatantly honest, gripping story about family.
"It blew me away. I found myself constantly highlighting quotes from it, stopping to think about how incredibly relatable it is. It is a book not only about death and grieving, but the ghosts that follow you throughout your life. Anne Enright speaks your innermost unspoken thoughts, and she does so unapologetically." -my bookstagram account, rorythereader.

Moving and heartwarming
Find this one on hulu. A very interesting, enjoyable story about a young girl dealing with her life in a very unique way. The story unfolds very well and the ending is very moving. The special effects in this movie are really good and the young actress did a great job. This is a good family movie you can see with the kids. Really worth a watch, but be prepared(some of you) for tears.

Incredibly cute
I'm a fan of the books but the film delivered in a way I couldn't have expected. This was mostly because the casting of the two main characters was perfection. The casting of Josh felt a slightly poorer fit. The Song Sisters really came into their own in terms of family bonds and difficulties. Peter Kovinsky and the actor brought the movie totally to life and I experienced true escapism watching this. I cannot wait for the next instalment.
