Great performances let down by the pace
I read Little Women quite a few years ago, and other than remembering the basic plot details, I went into this film with barely any preconceptions. And for the most part, it does quite well.
This film is all about the performances. I've always liked Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet, I think they're both charismatic and fantastic actors and any time these two are on screen in this film (either together or separately), it really is marvellous to watch. Throwing in a great turn from Florence Pugh and some wonderful support from Laura Dern, Chris Cooper, Meryl Streep and (a sadly forgettable) Emma Watson, the acting in this is pretty stellar
The major problem however is the pacing. The plot is interesting, but it's let down by the plodding dreadfully slow pace and a just over 2 hour film feels like a lifetime. It's such a shame, as had this been sped up a little or had a little of the runtime shaved off, it'd be a truly fantastic period drama.

BookwormLea (3034 KP) rated Motown: The Musical in The Shaftesbury Theatre (London, United Kingdom) in Shows

I loved this musical. My auntie who I went with said she didn't like the actor who played Berry Gordy (on our night, the main actor was sick so they used the understudy) she said he didn't sing the songs right. But as someone who is too young to have known Motown in its golden years, this was the best I could get. And it really was the best. All the songs are covers so i knew a lot of them and could sing along. And the actors who played the singers were so fantastic! Stevie Wonder was the spitting double of the real deal and it honestly could have been the real Diana Ross singing.... so believable! They even did this cute little bit were they let the audience sing. They picked some lady who was a bit shy but turned out to be amazing! And some over confident young fellow who is lucky we were too polite to laugh at his futile attempt at Stop In The Name Of Love...
Overall, fantastic play! Up there in my top 5 for sure!

Alice in Wonderland has got to be my favourite story. I just love everything about it! Hence why I got this book for Christmas; it's a really gorgeous book.
I don't think I need to go into much detail regarding the story; everyone knows Alice in Wonderland! What I will say is that the extra bits are lovely; there are letters from Carroll himself, details about how the story was written and printed, and other notes.
As for the illustrations... I love them! The original Tenniel illustrations are all in full colour, displayed wonderfully throughout the book. It just all looks so gorgeous!
So as I said, I won't want to go into too much detail. The story is obviously fantastic, and it's nice to see it all together - even with the "deleted scene" from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. The poems and songs and riddles... Fantastic!
Everything about this book is lovely. The cover, the layout, the red shine around the edge of the pages. Love it! A huge favourite of mine. 5 stars for definite.

Great and Insightful
First let me say that i think Billy Connolly is a genius. I know a lot of people know him as a comedian, but he is so much more. I have seen him act, sing, make people laugh and write fantastic books, this is one of them. I love how it starts with someone asking a question and it just develops from there. His way of writing makes it feel like you are just sitting somewhere in a cafe and talking to a friend. Its warm and welcoming and very down to earth. I have seen the tv programme that accompanies this book and if you have , then you definitely need to read this as well. From being at school to working in ship builders, from one night gigs to sell out shows. Everyone who reads this will see that no matter where Billy Connolly lives in the world, his heart will always live in Scotland. A fantastic book :)
