Merissa (13197 KP) rated Magic, Demons and the Hunter (Enchanted Ink #2) in Books
Aug 25, 2023
MAGIC, DEMONS AND THE HUNTER is part of the Enchanted Ink multi-author series and features Eliphas and Pierre, who we met in A SCENT LIKE NO OTHER, in the FATED MATES ANTHOLOGY.
This time, Mondo is also around. He is the third part of their triad, and the one Pierre and Eli thought was dead. He is very much alive but missing a chunk of memories, including those that would have sent him to Pierre and Eli.
While I love the coven and the triad in particular, I would have preferred to know more about their world and the demons they face. As it is part of a series, I did feel as though I'd missed out on some world-building by not having read book one yet.
The overall arc isn't over by a long shot and I look forward to reading more in this series and seeing other characters find their mates. I just hope I see more of Mondo, Pierre, and Eli, as they are fantastic characters that made me smile.
Hot, dangerous, flirtatious, honesty - it's all here and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Definitely recommended by me.

Kim Pook (101 KP) rated Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) in Movies
Sep 2, 2023
Not as good as first 2
Contains spoilers, click to show
We're back for the third and final installment of Pitch Perfect! The Bellas are singing "toxic" as the movie opens on a boat off the coast of France; however, as Amy enters carrying a fire extinguisher, the boat explodes, and the girls jump off.
Backtrack three weeks, and Rebecca is now making music. Unfortunately, a mediocre band with a horrible attitude makes her reevaluate her work, and she decides to resign. The Bellas attend a reunion, but they are given the short end of the stick since they believe they were invited to sing when in fact they were only there to listen to another group sing. The Bellas realise they need to sing together again upon hearing the other group, so they fly to Spain to perform for the army. However, the performance ends up being a competition as all the bands engage in an extended riff off. The bellas begin to worry when they understand they must compete against bands who play their own instruments.
Similar to the other films in the trilogy, the singing portions in this one are fantastic and infectious, and the last song gave me chills. The storyline wasn't as enjoyable this time around, though. Eliminate the entire Amy and her bad dad plot, which was over the top and inconsistent with the rest of the film; otherwise, the film would have been just as entertaining as the others.

Merissa (13197 KP) rated My Soul Immortal (Fated Eternals #1) in Books
May 17, 2023
Don't you just love it when you get a book that is completely different from anything you have read before? I know I do, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed this story by Jen Printy. She has set up a world completely different from anything I have read before, with not a vampire or werewolf in sight. Instead, it is a whole new world, most of which you learn from Jack's point of view. This, as well, makes a nice change, to read it mainly from the male's perspective.
The writing and editing were fantastic and I didn't spot any errors in here at all. There is a lot that goes on, from how we first meet Jack, to his moving to Portland, to meeting Leah and so on. That being said, I did feel that certain parts of the book could have done with being tightened up somehow. It just felt a bit 'slow' in places, which is not a bad thing!
For a fresh and new story with excellent world-building and characters, then I can definitely recommend this book. I am looking forward to reading more in this series, as I certainly want to know how the new trainee copes!!

Merissa (13197 KP) rated Supermoon: Cade & Sal's Story (The Dark Cities Trilogy #1) in Books
May 20, 2023
You know, it's been so long since I read a 'vampire' book that was different, but this one has ticked that particular box for me, along with many others. The world has changed, and not everyone thinks that it is a good thing. The vampires are now ruling supreme, whilst shifters are the ones providing the muscle on the farms and mines, working in harsh conditions; and the humans are slaves, and have to wear red to show their position as a 'blood bag'.
This story really starts when Cade is chosen to represent his city in a fight in which there is literally only one winner. It is last one standing (think of Roman gladiators!). Sal is chosen to be one of the human servants who will look after the shifters until such time as they go and fight.
This book is violent, funny, vicious, and hopeful. My heart was in my mouth every time a vampire came near Sal. Cade does a fantastic job of trying to speak to Sal without the vampires knowing. With sweet, yet hot, romance, this book was a delight that I just couldn't put down. I am definitely looking forward to reading more by this author.

Merissa (13197 KP) rated The Scout (Legends Of Pern Coen: Fated #2) in Books
May 23, 2023
THE SCOUT is the second book in the Legends of Pern Coen: Fated series and we continue with Bran and Seren's story. OH. MY. WORD!!! There is no middle book dip with this story! Instead, there are twists aplenty and an ending that will leave you gasping. It is SO good!
Bran and Seren are a wonderful couple and I love how their story progresses. I won't be sharing any spoilers, don't worry, but I will say that a lot goes on for them - some good, some not so good. Domhnall is still hanging around and going down in my estimation more and more. As for Aengus, my guess was correct but he is being played and it is breaking my heart. Alannah, I had such high hopes for but it seems she has been corrupted by Fianna. What will the future hold for Bran and Seren, as well as Alannah and Aengus?
This story will take you along, leading you on a merry dance as you read through the pages, completely immersed in the story. It is a very emotional read, especially that ending. I honestly can't wait for the third and final instalment. Absolutely fantastic and HIGHLY recommended by me.

Merissa (13197 KP) rated Elemental Love (Warlocks #1) in Books
May 31, 2023
This book starts with the birth of Evrain, as Agatha and Gregory speak whilst they are waiting. Immediately you get a rough idea of what is going on, but as the story continues, the gaps are filled and a clear picture is given. As with everything and everyone, there is good and bad, and in this instance, Evrain is basically good, although the Wild Magic can still corrupt him. As a warlock, he needs to find his partner, the one that will steady his power and make him stronger. In Evrain's case, that turns out to be Dominic, the shy gardener that fascinates Evrain. Through circumstances beyond their control, they are forced together (although neither of them fights it much!) and a warlock makes him move against them.
In this book, you are given an excellent viewpoint of how the partnership can work, with loving and strong foundations, as with Gregory and Coryn, or you see how it can be abused, and used without love, as with Symeon and Damon. With plenty of action, romance, and humour, this is a fantastic start to the Warlocks series and one that I will be reading again. Highly recommended

Merissa (13197 KP) rated Envy (Seven Princes of Sin #5) in Books
May 31, 2023
Please read the TWs!
ENVY is the fifth book in the Seven Princes of Sin series and, in my opinion, you really need to have read the others to receive the full benefit of this one. Also, and it's a biggie, you really need to read the Trigger Warnings for this series. It is hella dark and disturbing in places. Now, moving on…
Aedin is the Prince of Envy. And Becca is Aedin's soul mate. Becca is… troubled, to say the least, and it's not surprising at all when you consider her past. I know all of the soul mates were to be reincarnated into pain and sorrow each time but, oh man, this one was a doozy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, dark as it was, and loved the snippets of information we got about Wrath and Luci. I honestly can't wait for their books! The overall story arc is moving along with each book, and the previous pairs show up in each new one, so it really does help to read them in order.
A fantastic addition to the series and definitely recommended by me. Just, again, please read the TWs!

Merissa (13197 KP) rated Mist Revealed (Elemental Desire #1) in Books
Jun 6, 2023
A virus like no other is spreading around parts of Greenland. Cat has researched this, and it has become personal as her sister has also died from it. She goes to Greenland without authority, to try and find out more data to back her research. She literally bumps into Rune and sparks fly. Her life will change from that moment in ways she had never, and could never, have imagined. Rune is instantly drawn to Cat, in a way he never has been previously. He knows that he wants to 'mate' her, he knows that he will not be sharing her, even though this was a common occurrence amongst his brothers.
With a fast-paced storyline, you are drawn into the world of Mist and Smoke, with Norse Gods, Fire Demons and Wardens. With a cast of fantastic characters, both good and bad, this story will sweep you away and leave you wanting more. As this is the first story, you do get the history part of the story too, which you need, but it is done in such a way that you don't mind and, in fact, want to know more.
A brilliant start to the series, and I can't wait to read more. Highly recommended.

Merissa (13197 KP) rated The Red Zone (Big Play, #2) in Books
Jan 17, 2019 (Updated Jun 7, 2023)
The Red Zone (Big Play #2) by Jordan Ford
The second book in the series focuses on Mack and Kaija, although Colt and Tori still have integral roles to play to my unashamed pleasure! Mack is the Quarterback, the one every girl wants and every guy wants to be. He knows the 'rules' of the school, although he has his doubts when he sees how happy Tori and Colt are. It comes to a head when he sees Kaija for the first time and is instantly struck by her. Kaija feels the same way but has her own reasons for trying to stay away from him and keep under the radar.
Once again, this story is a smash!!! With believable characters that will have you laughing out loud at their prank war, and yet wiping your eyes at a different part, and a compelling and emotional storyline, this book is a fantastic addition to the Big Play series.
Exceedingly well written, smoothly paced, with enough angst to keep everyone happy, and no editing or grammatical errors that I found, I have no hesitation in highly recommending this to all fans of Young Adult, Contemporary, and Romance.

Merissa (13197 KP) rated I'm Not in Love (Don't Let Go #1) by Mia Kerick in Books
Jun 13, 2022 (Updated Jun 13, 2023)
I'M NOT IN LOVE is the first book in the Don't Let Go series and we start off with Remi and Tristan. Both of these guys have major baggage going on, but manage to find some solace with each other. Will it last, or will they push each other away?
Remi and Tristan are opposites in so many ways. Remi has money but no real family. Tristan has his family he adores, but they are struggling to make ends meet. They meet by chance and sort of fall into a friendship that becomes so much more, although neither will admit it.
I found the baggage for both of them to be realistic. The supporting characters were also fantastic additions, especially if Uncle Tris got hurt! The pacing was perfect for the story and I was definitely left wanting more, not ready to leave Remi and Tris behind.
I don't know if this series will focus on them or on other pairs, but I really hope we catch up with Remi and Tris, no matter what. A brilliant start to a new series and I can't wait to read more. Absolutely recommended.
