Very classy romantic drama-thriller. When a young Amish boy witnesses a brutal murder, it leads to detective John Book uncovering widespread corruption in his own department. He is forced to hide out amongst the Amish, and finds he is drawn to their way of life almost despite himself.

This is a classic movie, but also one of those films which looks deceptively simple and straightforward: there are no staggering plot twists, no big set pieces (except for the one where some people build a barn) - it's one of those very brave films with the confidence to take its time and let the characters and story grow and breathe. The contrast between the ugliness of the big city and the quiet consolations of the Amish lifestyle is carefully achieved; Harrison Ford seizes the chance to lead the movie and give a proper acting performance (this got him his Oscar nomination). A great film; didn't quite make me want to go and live on a farm, but a close thing.

I really enjoyed this. It was both heart-warming and heart breaking at times.

I have to say I liked every character in this, apart from the bad guys of course.

Nichol was a hard working guy who gave up Edinburgh to help his Granda when his mum and brother died and you had to feel sorry for him because he never got thanked for his efforts or got the chance to mourn their loss. Cameron started off as a scared guy on the run but blossomed into a very helpful, very hard working guy who came to love both Nichol and Harry, though for different reasons. Harry was your typical brusque old man who never showed his feelings and in the end, I'm sure he regretted that. Archie, was your well to do cop who only ended up causing more problems and Shona was your tough farm girl who was taking the reigns after losing her abusive husband.

Together they were a very lively bunch and they brought a smile to my face one way or another.

The ultimate stoner movie - rivaled only by ๐˜›๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ and ๐˜๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ฅ & ๐˜’๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ณ ๐˜Œ๐˜ด๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ ๐˜Ž๐˜ถ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ ๐˜‰๐˜ข๐˜บ. Just so precisely captures that essence of getting high with your buddies, and then ingeniously represents it through these literal Chaotic Good, Chaotic Neutral, and Chaotic Evil trio of leads - played to (unsurprising) perfection by Franco, Rogen, and McBride respectively. The comedic value earned in each scene by transitioning from shooting the shit about nonsensical high musings abruptly into blunt violence cannot be understated - those fights are so side-splitting. And I'll be damned but the action... actually looks like action! Further proof that these are at their best when made by people who regularly get blazed as hell. Two hours straight of hilarious Rogen and co. histrionics, general destruction and chaos which routinely draw blood, and it ends with a 15 minute long shootout + fistfight combo in a pot farm. Just spectacular, as funny during its low-key moments as it is when it goes off the rails. Naturally, Amber Heard is the only major weak point.

"When read aloud, this playโ€”which takes place during the course of one night in the life of a mother whose daughter wants to commit suicideโ€”is like a poem. Although technically not a book, the journey I made with this Pulitzer Prize-winning play affected my life in a deeply personal level. When my 83-year-old father was facing a leg amputation due to diabetes, he attempted suicide. Naively, I tried to encourage him to hang on to life. He replied, โ€œYou know how I feel. Youโ€™re doing that play.โ€ The role of the daughter, Jessie, was originally written for a dear friend, Susan Kingsley, but she never wanted to be a โ€œBroadway star.โ€ She wanted to stay home with her babies and her husband on their pig and tobacco farm in Kentucky. In 1984 she was killed in an automobile wreck. Marshaโ€™s play was a major turning point in my career, but I would have given it all up, if Susan had been in the play instead of an icy road in Georgia."

Helping a Stranger on a Train
Nancy and her friends Bess and George are returning from a shopping trip when they meet Joanne on the train. She is heading to try to find a job to help her grandmother save her farm. The four quickly become friends, and Nancy gets involved in helping her find a job. However, several strange things happen to them along the way. Can Nancy figure out what is going on now?

When I pick up a Nancy Drew book, I expect coincidence to drive the plot a little. Here, there was so much of it early on that it was hard to overlook it. Fortunately, that lessened as the story moved forward. The story was still action packed and kept my attention. The characters are thin as always, but I still enjoyed spending some time with them again. Kids will probably more easily overlook both of these things. They might get confused by a few dated references, however, including using an old, now unacceptable, term for a minority. Still, I suspect they will enjoy this page turning story.
