Merissa (13681 KP) rated Retribution (Dragonlands #3) in Books

This book picks up where Hunted left off and we are straight away back with Bastian, Connor and Tressa. Secrets need to be shared, confidences kept and lives moved on but it's really not that simple.
The action is as fast-paced as ever and you will find yourself turning the pages quicker and quicker as you get involved with the story and the characters. There are twists and turns aplenty and characters are not who you thought they were. There is no build-up either to some of them. One minute they're who you think they are, the next their character has done a 180 and becomes someone completely different. This keeps you on the edge of your seat as you read through.
I have to say that I really do feel sorry for Tressa - it appears that a quiet life with the one she loves is so far out of reach that it's just not funny.
Fast-paced, action-packed and intense - this series just keeps on getting better and better.

Hazel (2934 KP) rated The Silent Man in Books
Aug 27, 2023
I didn't realise this was the last book in a trilogy when I started reading it and whilst it is clear that I have missed the back story, it didn't affect my enjoyment of this book one little bit. My only gripe is with myself, how did I miss the first 2 books in this series??
From the very first page, I was hooked and couldn't read it fast enough. The characters are excellent and I loved the easy and natural relationship between Archer and Quinn. The story is told from various points of view which give a rounded view of the two main plots and whilst this can sometimes cause confusion, not so here.
Written at a fast pace with plenty of twists, turns and scenes of violence and peril, The Silent Man is a book that I can highly recommend to those of you who love a gritty and dark story with a serial killer who uses a unique way to both identify and despatch his victims.
I will definitely be looking out for more by David Fennell in the future and thanks must go to him, Bonnier Books, Zaffre and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of The Silent Man.

This story starts with General Jaden trying to shoot down an aircraft that he doesn't think has the authorisation to be there. It turns out that it does, and he is drawn into a meeting with the Ambassador and the President. Demands are made, and Jaden is forced to agree to their terms.
This story moves along at a fast pace, but not so fast to be confusing. Jaden has to learn every aspect of a culture very different to his own, including the fact that he is now 'property' and what that may entail. His personality finds it difficult to submit, and the training is brutal. Punishments are usually only needed to be given once, put it that way!
The world-building and characters are top-notch. It is easy to follow the story and the different foibles of each character. With an amazing twist towards the end, this is Sci-Fi to be thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely recommended, and I will be looking for more from this author.

Merissa (13681 KP) rated Twister in Books
Aug 4, 2025
TWISTER is a standalone novel in a wider selection of books set at the same time (ish) in the same town (ish). Daniel is looking after his daughter and his farm, while Marshall is trying to figure out what to do with his life. When a twister blows into town, all bets are off as they work together.
There are many parts of this story I loved - the meet-cute, Rose, Bucky, KAJIR!!!, Jackson - loved all of it. What I didn't get on so well with was the sheer speed of it. Also, there were a lot of hot topics covered, but none in-depth, again, because of the fast pacing.
This author is new to me, but I would definitely be happy to read more of her work. This had me laughing out loud at the over-the-top personalities, eyes leaking in the hospital, and the devastation at the farm, plus both during the wedding ceremony.
A fast-paced, fun read that I definitely recommend.
** Same worded review will appear elsewhere. **
