Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2379 KP) rated Mrs. Pollifax and the Whirling Dervish (Mrs Pollifax #9) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Carstairs has doubts about the agent they are sending to Morocco to verify a network of spies, so he sends Mrs. Pollifax along to help smooth things over. But when the first spy is killed an hour after they identify him, Mrs. Pollifax realizes she's in deep trouble.
While the last couple of books in the series aren't quite up to bar, this is a return to form in most ways. Mrs. Pollifax is a resourceful and charming as ever, and the plot is as fun and fast paced as it is improbable. A perfect escape.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2379 KP) rated The Job (Fox and O'Hare, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
When someone starts framing Nick Fox for an international crime spree, FBI agent Kate O’Hare has to jump in to find the true villain. But answers just lead them to a con that is the most dangerous of their partnership.
As always, this book is fast paced and fun with humor to keep things light and danger to keep the pages turning. The characters are getting better, but they could still be stronger. Still, I had so much fun reading this book.
NOTE: I was sent an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Jules (60 KP) rated King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword (2017) in Movies

Disapointing
To be honest I was disappointed in this movie. I thought it would have been a lot better. I love the story or Arthur and his Knights of the round table, and Merlin is one of my favourite tv shows. I feel like this movie had so much potential. It started off good but I think it was too rushed and they skipped from one part to the other so fast it was hard to know what was going on. I think they could taken more time and told the story properly. It wasn't the worst movie and there were parts I enjoyed. It just wasn't that great in my opinion.

Quietly Empowering
Realistically, this isn't the most thrilling or exciting story I've ever read. It's a story about a mostly ordinary journey in a realistic world. But when the story was over, it really stayed with me.
It's hard to find a book that is as equally entertaining as it is empowering. This is the first fictional book I've read in a long while where I have cheered out loud "You go girl!" as I went through it.
To anyone interested, I suggest reading / listening to "Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between)" before this book, because of all the fun insights it gives you into "Someday, Someday, Maybe".

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Speaking in Bones (Temperance Brennan, #18) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
This was a good mystery, full of twists, and fast paced. Tempe thinks she knows who killed Hazel and who the remains belong to only to find herself proven wrong. I was kept guessing right along with her. While I really enjoyed the mystery, Tempe's indecision regarding her on again / off again relationship with Detective Ryan was starting to get to me. There was some resolution on that front near the end though, which is why the book gets 4 stars from me instead of 3.

Not your Grandma’s sci-fi novel
The tech future has made the biggest game in the world a red vs blue expirence akin to esports and March Madness. The world of the game is highly realized, the augmented reality in real life serves as an addictivly immersive expirence. The young billionaire who created the program has layers upon layers that our heroine, Emika, peels back as she gets to know him. She is a hacker, a coder, a bounty hunter, and an all around badass, whose past is difficult but precious to her once her life gets turned upside down and she joins the annual Warcross tournament.
A great, fast paced read.

Stephanie (4 KP) rated Ticket to Ride: Europe in Tabletop Games
Jun 29, 2018
Ticket to ride is a very fun and strategic game for the whole family to play. This game takes a little bit of patience when first learning how to play as some aspects of the game can be a bit tricky to understand. Once you fully know the rules and understand how to play, then the game tends to run quite fast as you only have 4 options of things to do each time your turn comes round. This is a game that you can pick up and play a couple of times in a row. It is a great game and is especially good for all those competitive players out there.
The book Caraval for me personally was enjoyable. I really enjoyed the aspect of magic in the book and how that was developed throughout. I think the author really did pull something amazing together with the idea of Caraval and Legend. It did have its flaws where I feel the characters were not really developed enough and I feel like the ending of the story to me felt a little rushed. It felt like different things were happening fast and suddenly. Overall I would say it's a really great book I continued to read the story as I wanted to know what happened and just really loved the magic showed throughout the story.

Really good!
This one was recommended by a friend(thanks Augusta!). It's on Netflix now and I'm glad I watched it. The acting was really well done(not surprising considering the seasoned actors in it) and the cinematography was great. The story unfolded well and the surprise twist at the end was excellent! This is not a fast paced story or flashy in any way but keeps you interested the whole time and evokes emotion throughout. Nothing too graphic(mild violence) but handles some mature subject matter. I think it's ok for kids(will probably start a conversation or two). Doesn't end exactly like you would expect! REALLY worth a watch!

Political conspiracy
The First Lady of Mexico is a wanted woman, wanted for the murder of her husband, the President...
A cat and mouse game between her and the authorities who want her caught and bought to justice, Determined to try and prove herself innocent and not knowing who to trust and where to turn she leaves her family behind to try and find the truth...
The story is gripping and fast paced and reminds me of 24 in some ways, you feel for the characters and get drawn into the story with enough twists to keep it interesting. This is one of the better political thrillers of recent times.
