Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2206 KP) rated Away in a Manger (Molly Murphy Mysteries, #15) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Christmas 1905 is approaching, and Molly is looking forward to spending a quiet holiday with her family. However, a young girl out in the cold attracts her attention, and she feels compelled to find out all she can about this girl’s family. Her mother disappeared months ago. What happened to her? Does the girl have any family left who would take her in?
The book gives us a wonderful look at Christmas in another time as we see different traditions we don’t follow any more. But that feeling is balanced by the mystery, which has some serious tones to it. Rhys Bowen balances the two perfectly. Mix in our favorite characters, and you’ve got a Christmas mystery to savor.

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Divisadero in Books
Oct 7, 2020
Michael Ondaatje is undoubtedly my favorite author. However, his books are sadly few and far between (but oh, the quality…)! I, like all his fans, now anxiously await the publication of his newest book, which is coming out in early May. While we wait, I thought this would be a good time to remember some of his other books, such as “Divisadero” which I reviewed on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/12/09/up-close-and-undivided-attention/
(The title of this novel comes from a street in San Francisco but the origin of the name of the street probably means 'division' or it could come from a verb in Spanish 'divisar' which means 'to gaze at from a distance'. In this, we find that the title of this novel is a metaphor for the book as a whole.

Book Divas (227 KP) rated A Bit Witchy in Books
Dec 12, 2017
I received an eARC via Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. I made no guarantee of a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are my own.
I felt a bit mislead by the title of this book but in all honesty I have no one to blame but myself as I didn't read the synopsis however, this book about guardian angels was an enjoyable read.
Lena is the school loner and her peers have labeled her a witch which she isn't but she is indeed very special as she can see guardian angels. I love how the author wrote the Lena character; a bit of a foul mouthed teen with just the right amount of spunk. The story line moved quickly and it is humorously written. I look forward to seeing these characters once again.
My two personal favorite quotes:
" I cannot think of anyone I'd rather breathe with."
" You can only see the moral scars when there's a good guardian angel to show you. For whatever reason shmuck here doesn't have one of those."
