Silent Hill- is a great movie. Its a great movie based off of a video game. One of my favorite movies based off of a video game. Maybe even my favorite. The atmosphere, the visuals, the horror, the charcters, Pyramid Head, does a excellent job knowing the atmosphere of silent hill and the video game itself.
The plot: Unable to accept the fact that her daughter is dying, Rose (Radha Mitchell) decides to take the girl to a faith healer. On the way, the pair drive through a portal in reality, leading to an eerie town called Silent Hill. The town is surrounded by a potent darkness, and the human survivors fight a losing battle against it.
Development of Silent Hill began in the early 2000s. After attempting to gain the film rights to Silent Hill for five years, Gans sent a video interview to them explaining his plans for adapting Silent Hill and how important the games are to him. Konami awarded him the film rights as a result.
Director Christophe Gans attempted for five years to obtain the film rights to the Silent Hill series from Konami. He sent a video interview to them explaining his plans for adapting Silent Hill and how important the games are to him.
In order to maintain the feel of the games, Gans had the sound designer of the original Silent Hill, Akira Yamaoka, flown to the set several times. Additionally, Gans had a 40-inch television brought onto the set, to which he attached a PlayStation 2; Gans then played the original Silent Hill on the system so that the actors and cinematographers could see how Gans wanted to emulate various camera angles and movements.
Its a excellent movie and a must see.

Erika (17788 KP) rated Aquaman (2018) in Movies
Dec 22, 2018 (Updated Dec 22, 2018)
I was expecting this movie to be a clusterf*** if I'm being honest. the trailers made it look really hokey. BUT, this movie was super entertaining. Of course, it was predictable, as most mainstream films are, but I wasn't super annoyed by it. It was a big, slightly dumb, fun film.
The action was good. The VFX/CGI made this entire film, and... cough, cough, Marvel take note because the CGI in the last 3rd of Black Panther and last battle scene in IW were a cluster from a VFX standpoint.
Do you want fighting underwater? Some dude in a weird helmet with daddy issues? A slight Indiana Jones vibe for around 30 minutes? Some big d*** energy from Aquaman? Then, this is the film for you.
I don't even like Amber Heard, but she was one of my favorite characters. I don't think Aquaman really had to save her throughout the movie. Jason Momoa was definitely the right person to pull off Aquaman without making him super weird.
The only weird casting decision was Patrick Wilson... Anytime I see him in films, I think of that super weird/awkward sex scene in Watchmen, which forever scarred me...I will gladly go see this at least one more time before it leaves theaters.

A look back with a venagance
I have been listening to this podcast for several months to catch up with all the episodes the official blurb is:
"Shat the Movies ask, what are the best 80s & 90s movies? Do you find yourself asking if the movies we loved while growing up were really that good? Have you caught yourself thinking, “why don’t make movies like they use to?” Can you still remember spending your Friday Nights searching for the perfect movie rental at Blockbuster Video? Do you know what Blockbuster Video is? If you answered yes, then this is the podcast for you!
Your hosts, Dick Ebert, Kerri Gross, Gene Lyons, & Roger Roeper will take a look back in time & decide if our favorite films still hold up. Each week, the audience selects from four (6) movie choices that we will break out their race-car VHS tape re-winder and watch the movie that tallied the highest number of votes.
Occasionally, a special guest will join to help break down the craziness that was film-making in the 80’s & 90’s.
At the end of each podcast, The hosts will provide the audience with the number of wipes each movie would take to get off your respective bums. Find a comfortable spot on the sofa, and accompany us for a journey through our vast VHS movie collections."
I enjoy the debate between the hosts and they are different as people so this adds to the content. There are personal stories and some adult content that compliment their reviews. This is my go to podcast for reviewing retro film classics and I look forward to each episode.
Highly recommended!!!

Maris (8 KP) rated The Cruel Prince in Books

Absolutely stunning! magical, mystical creatures, and a dark truth. I loved this story and is one of my top favorite reads of 2018.
Are main character Jude is a mortal living in the Fey world with her twin sister. They are bullied from other creatures. Holy Black did a wonderful job writing this story were I could visualize the whole story in my head like a movie.
This lovely gem is such a dark, twisted story that the ending had me shocked. I can not wait for the second book as I need to have more from this story.

Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated Toy Story (1995) in Movies
Jan 22, 2018 (Updated Jan 22, 2018)
you got a fiend in me
What really happens when we aren't playing with our toys when we are out. In this Pixar movie they come to life and live among each other and are like a family. Woody is the head toy and Andy's favorite but, when a brand new toy gets given to Andy for his birthday is there a new king of the castle. Toys are always evolving and just like the new hot girl transferring to a new school and taking over the roost from the current popular one there is competition for top dog. Will Andy's toys get along or does one get discarded for newer additions.
Erika (17788 KP) rated The Four Feathers (1939) in Movies
Jan 28, 2018
This movie is the best adaptation of the novel, "The Four Feathers' by A.E.W. Mason, and probably one of my top ten favorite films. Well worth the $40 to buy the Criterion Collection blu-ray. The Four Feathers is about a soldier that decides not to deploy to Egypt when needed, and his friends and fiance send him 4 feathers for his cowardice. The then goes and proves that he's not a coward, and returns the feathers to each of the four people that gave him. He breaks his friends out of jail, gets one to safety, and finally shuts up his fiance's father who tells the same, inaccurate story at every dinner party.
