Interesting and believable concept
Although I'm not a big fan of science-fiction, I thought I would give this a try on a friends recommendation. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the plot, though I found the main character a bit hard to like. I loved the descriptive elements of the book, particularly when describing Edinburgh, one of my favourite cities. With today's global warming fears, this vision of the apocalypse, isn't too far-fetched!

Henrie O gets a call from her old lover that he needs help, so she flies to his island. Once there, she learns he fears for his life, and sure enough he is murdered during a storm. Trapped on the island with a killer, can Henrie figure out who done it? A good puzzler that would make Christie proud. My only complaint was the ending was rushed, and the book deserved better.

Mary Anne only stops being a doormat because she fears the wrath of K. Ron Hubbard. Check.

An older woman, who presumably has been living by herself for quite a while, breaks her ankle and just...lays around waiting for someone to hear her yelling? I'm going to pretend that she just passed out from the pain, woke up and figured she'd call out before moving her ass so a neighboring cat wouldn't eat her face.

The sexism b-plot with Nicky and Buddy was kinda nice, though.

"Cocteau, black-and-white, with Jean Marais. That was [a] way of telling stories…very, very [strangely]. I was very shocked because everything [becomes] possible [when] you can present your story in a poetic way. And the voice of the actor… When you are young, you understand [here] that even if you are not handsome, you can find love, because the girl loved the beast. [chuckles] It came maybe from my fears when I was young, not to find a girl, not to seduce. You know what I mean?"
