Good but bonkers
I haven't yet read Desperation, so fortunately could judge this solely on it's own merits and it's definitely one of King's better books.

It reads a lot like his other epic novels like The Stand, Needful Things etc but in a much smaller size, and it's all the better for it. The plot is interesting and your typical King story, although being based around kid's tv shows makes it a little bit bonkers. It also means that some of the book can feel a little childish at times and some times it can get a bit irritating. But that said, as always with King it's well written with some interesting and developed characters, with lots of horror and gore and just about the right length of book to fit the story. This would make a hell of a good tv show.

"Like I said, I think you're only as good as your last creative output, and I think Adore Life is even better than Savages' first album. I got to see them when they were touring this record live last summer as we shared a few festival bills, and they're just phenomenal. Their show absolute punk rock & roll, but dirgey in the way you feel you've drunk too much iowaska, yet you're just at a gig. Their music is hypnotic, it's trance inducing, and Jehnny Beth is just the embodiment of rock & roll, one of the few hopes we have in British music at the moment. What I love is that so many people got behind it, yet it's still such an uncompromising album. It's work to listen to this record, you're not going to put it on and immediately have a good time, and that's important. We need challenging records."

Obvious but ok
I saw a lot of reviews rating this book quite highly so perhaps that is why I feel it was lacking. The main character is believable and I do love all the various storylines. I like the description of the library, I felt like th cover on my copy left less to the imagination though.

Perhaps this was the point but the story was very obvious. I'm not a philosophy fan so maybe it was supposed to shadow a philosopher?!

Some parts I felt were over described and frankly quite boring. Whereas other parts were lacking in description. Plus I don't think the final couple of chapters were neccessary, certainly the penultimate one.

The copy I have was the perfect hard back with good sized text and spacing.

Fun if not fantastic
The 3rd entry now in the Fantastic Beasts. Similar to the last film and continuing on some of the main themes from that film, so you might want to have a refresh.
It's good to see Hogwarts again and some familiar Harry Potter universe locations. There are some big magical scenes with great SfX, and some good action for a film with a political vibe to a large section of it.
There were some more child like silly scenes which did feel a bit out of place. Also a shame Tina a big character in the first two films barely appears this time. Though it's great to see more about Dumbledore's history.
Overall though it's a fun film with a big and talented cast set in a familiar magical Potter universe.

Hex Hall was funny, cute, and exciting. Sophie had a witty, slightly sarcastic interior monologue and it made it fun to read, even though the writing itself wasn’t good per se.

A very good aspect of Hex Hall was the mystery side. I had no idea who the “bad guy” was (there turned out to be more than one!) until the very end, and I had no idea what was going to happen.

My only complaint was the ending: it wasn’t very good. It left unanswered questions, and there was no closure. It just… ended. Like the ending of a chapter, it felt like there should have been at least one more paragraph. One more paragraph to make you feel like Sophie was confident and knew what she was doing, and that everything was going to turn out right. But… it ended slightly lame.

Except the ending (as in the very last two pages) Hex Hall was a light funny cute read, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Content/Recommendation: Clean, some small descriptions of violence. Ages 12-18

I remember the first 2 short series when they were on Channel 4, both good but they were only 4 episodes long and the second one seemed to end abruptly. They are available on Netflix with the Netflix original new series which is 10 episodes long.
It's definitely worth watching the first 2 series as many of the main characters are the same and the story does carry on from then. Although it's been 6 years since the last series.
This is a good crime drama showing how rival drug gangs from different estates are trying to out do each other. It does feel quite realistic as we see the events unfold from many different characters viewpoints. Family, friends, rivals, gang members as they all get tied up with the events that unfold. It definitely feels like a much better all round story than the first 2 series. It's quite violent in parts as you would expect. Definitely worth putting towards the Top of your list to check out. If you like films like @Kidulthood (2006) you will like this.
