Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated The Final Tap (Living History Museum, #2) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
Well, I've found yet another cozy mystery series to add to my must-buy list! I really enjoyed the setting - a working historical farm - and learned everything I could want to know about maple syrup production. Not in a clinical way, but as interesting bits of information presented during the story.
Our heroine Kelsey has her hands full trying to run the farm, raise her kindergarten-age son, and solve a murder before the police can pin it on one of her young employees. There was an interesting cast of characters, and that homey, small-town feel that I love in a good cozy.
While previous events are mentioned, it's not necessary to have read book 1 to know what's going on.
NOTE: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Roxanne (13 KP) rated No Sanctuary: Do you dare to try this terrifying Halloween treat? in Books
Nov 14, 2018
I am a big fan of Laymon and have been for a number of years. I have read most of his work and have enjoyed them all. I did enjoy this story, however, I did feel that this was one of his weaker works. It sort of lacked that Laymon intensity. If you enjoy cheesy B-movie horrors and thrillers then I would say you would enjoy this book...and all other Laymon books as well thinking about it.
I thought the combination of the two stories written side by side would of come to a very explosive crash but they kind of just touched, gave eachother a pat on the back and then wondered off.
Overall, weaker than I expected but still a good paced read to pass the time. Plus it's Laymon...you have to read it.

Bubba Gee (147 KP) rated Black Mirror - Season 5 in TV

Absolute poppycock
Contains spoilers, click to show
This has nothing to offer, usually black mirror pulls you in and you feel fearful.
With this I just felt bored.
In Ashley too episode there was nothing on offer at all, cyrus's acting was wooden and unconvincing, the story was throughly unbelievable, and yes some fiction can be unbelievable. But this was just too mainstream in a way.
Striking vipers was just weird in the wrong way, virtual cheating i mean come on are we supposed to think that's all good.
Smithereens was probably the best of them all but that's not saying much.
Essentially enforcing the idea that social media is to blame for all the worlds evils.
They need to do much better for season 6 and bring black mirror back to its terrifying best.
F for effort

Do you dare to disagree?
This is one of those movies. You will cry everytime you watch it and yet feel so good afterwards. If you are about to watch this for the first time your in for a surprise. Our main characters are just us struggling in life Louisa to make a living and will to come to terms with his disability a. It is amazing to watch their main priority a in life become each other. It is lovely to see how life brings together a couple that would never have met and how much of an impact they have on eachothers lives.
Please go watch this movie it is honestly amazing and then leave your own review maybe we can have a debate about it ? although I've not yet met anyone who disagrees with me on this film yet.

Ledger who ?
Ledger who ? Might be a bit strong but after watching Pheonix play out this role it is nice to see that this role can be played and leave us at a point where we can appreciate how good the acting was by both men.
The story is extremely well scripted and played out. Watching somebody struggle with their own mental health, you can see that isn't that far fetched a story as you feel for the character and the demons he faces.
The cast around Phoenix are excellent and understated enough to showcase the performance by Phoenix.
I came out of this movie instantly wanting to watch it again and left me and my buddies still talking about it days later. It has been a long long time since a film had that effect on me. !

Merissa (13472 KP) rated The Claiming (Dark Desires #1) in Books
Dec 17, 2018
The Claiming tells of Francesca's story. She was betrothed at a very young age, and only finds out on her eighteenth birthday who it is to. She doesn't know him, his likes/dislikes, and has no idea how he will treat her. Although she gets more than she bargained for to begin with, she soon accepts her situation and is happy to make the most of it.
This is well-written, with a smooth yet fast pace. Although this is a contemporary story, there is almost a paranormal feel to it. I kept expecting him or her to turn into a vampire! This is the first book in the series, so you can expect more to come from Julieanne Lynch.
* I received this book from Totally Bound Publishing in return for a fair and honest review. *

Merissa (13472 KP) rated Bluegrass Undercover (Bluegrass Brothers, #1) in Books
Dec 17, 2018
I love the Bluegrass series and was very happy to read that there was more to come in the shape of the Bluegrass Brothers. This is a set of books set in a small town where everybody knows everybody and some know things that no one else knows how they know! Still with me? This book carries on with the LOL moments and the suspense in this book is in the form of the drugs ring that the DEA is trying to break.
The ending was fairly obvious but I wasn't reading it for the suspense side of things so this wasn't a problem for me. If you are looking for a light read, filled with humour, feel-good moments and spice thrown in there too, then give the Bluegrass/Bluegrass Brothers series a go. Recommended.

Deborah (162 KP) rated The Roots of Betrayal (Clarenceux, #2) in Books
Dec 21, 2018
The Roots of Betrayal carries on where Forrester's first novel, Sacred Treason, left off. Really you need to have read the first book before this as it will make much more sense.
It is a real page turner, but on reflection, the plot itself is almost a sideline to the characters and scenes of fighting, torture, etc going on around them! Plenty of blood is spilled during the novel, so not one for the faint hearted!
Forrester homself, alias historian Ian Mortimer, may rail against the description of his novels as historically accurate, but there is certainly a good period feel in the novel, although I'm not sure I'd be hopping in the TARDIS just yet to pay a visit to William Harley if these novels are an example of an average day at the office for him!

What if Superman was evil?
Being born and raised a diehard Superman fan, this trailer piqued my interest. It's a worn premise: What if Superman was evil instead of good? The answered has intrigued storytellers, comic writers, and moviegoers for years. And I feel that this movie answers it well. The best part of the film is that it doesn't shy away from the gruesome violence and gore that would ensue when one with these powers decided to use them for evil. Each member of the main family plays their role well, their internal conflict over the happenings constantly evident on their faces. Also, a great job of setting up an ending you expect and then delivering a shocking finale. Wouldn't mind seeing more into this alternate universe.
Tim McGuire (301 KP) rated Parasite (2019) in Movies
Mar 14, 2020
406. Parasite. We meet Kim Ki-woo, as he's getting recruited to help tutor a high school girl in English, of course all his past experience is a lie, but he's good at the job at hand so why not go for it! And once he's in the door, he manages to weasel the rest of his family jobs within the same household. It's not that they are bad at the jobs, they just stole them from others. For instance, when Kim Ki-woo gets mom, Moon-gwang the maid job. However the former maid has a secret and when she shows up a few days later on the front steps, this could be the end for the family! Movie really makes you feel uncomfortable, and for me I just wanted something really bad to happen. :) Filmbufftim on FB
