The general premise is going for a precursor to the first game. The characters are younger, learning to gel as a team. Tom Holland is great as a young Nathan Drake. Maybe a little alien in comparison to the game version, but passable for a first outing. I'm still completely unsold on Mark Whalberg as Sully though. He's way more unlikable here than in the games, and that didn't quite sit well with me. The two of them together lack the chemistry that is such an important part of the source material, and it does hurt the film somewhat. Sophia Ali is promising as a young Chloe Frazer, and Tati Gabrielle plays a convincing villain. Antonio Banderas is just kind of there and feels a bit wasted.
The narrative has some pacing issues. As much as I can commend the commitment to lengthy segments of puzzle solving, it doesn't quite have the same impact of when you're in control, and it does drag to a certain extent. Thankfully, the last 30 minutes does a whole lot of heavy lifting in making up for the more lackluster moments. The final set piece causes the film to spring to life, and suddenly, it's a full blown Uncharted film. The action is absurd, the music score is familiar (the main Uncharted theme will always be a banger), and the film ends in a way that has me excited for future installments.
The best way to sum up Uncharted is that it's a good start. It's nowhere near perfect, and it's origin-like narrative pales in comparison to the stories that are right there for the taking thanks to the games, but it feels like a setup for bigger things to come, and most importantly, it does feel like an Uncharted movie, and that's all I really wanted.

There is an on-going plot line to these books, so they are best read in order. We met Ben in book one of this series, and I didn't much like him in that book.
Here though, we get all of Ben, Nico and Teilo and I really enjoyed it.
Nico and Teilo are left for dead when things go down in book 1. They are cage brothers, identical but not related. They were made and trained as assassins, much like the lost boys in book one. And the feelings they have for each other, they cannot define but those feelings were used against them by those training them.
Ben rescues them and gets them back to full health. They are confused by Ben and their feelings for him but once Ben explains about mates, and what Nico and Telio feel for each other is not wrong, they are ALL in.
I loved how innocent Nico and Teilo are, given what they have been doing and what happened to them. It's difficult reading, when they are telling Ben what happened to them.
It's quite a bit darker than book 1, Marvin, I thought, but also a bit steamier. Given there are three of them, hardly surprising but I loved how the physical relationship moved quickly, once Nico and Teilo understood their feelings. I wanted to wrap those cats up and snuggle on the sofa, I really did!
Again, I'm left with questions, but mostly these revolve around the plot and where it's going and what's gonna happen next!
I know WHO is next, cos this leads wonderfully into Duran's book,he's one of Marvin's lost boys.
I enjoyed this a bit more than Marvin, but I can't do 4.5 stars on some sites, so I'll leave it at 4, and hope that the next book pulls that extra bit out of me.

They have to leave Bess' Sanctuary and race across country to try to evade the big bad. Of course, things are not that easy, and to read it made me feel exhausted! Pitch and Sickle are so much stronger when they are together but circumstances don't always allow for what you want. I love how their relationship has changed from the beginning and how, even when things are dire, they grab every moment they can - even if all they get up to is spending the night in each other's arms. There are sexy moments but only where they should be and fitting with the story.
Speaking of the story, one thing that has stood out to me from the beginning is the care and research this author has done into local legends, before weaving them into her own world. I loved how Black Annis was brought into Book 1, and this time we have Sherwood Forest. I'll let you guess the myth because you won't guess how it works in this world. I was amazed and loved it.
This is a dark series, with this one no exception. My eyes were full of tears on more than one occasion - which I loved because it meant I was completely immersed in the story and with the characters.
My only complaint is I've got to wait for the seventh book to come out! I can't wait until they are all released and I can buy them and have them sitting pretty on my bookshelf! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.
