Clare Parrott (294 KP) rated Mercury Striking (Scorpius Syndrome, #1) in Books
Feb 13, 2018
Found it a little confusing in the beginning but soon got into it. I do enjoy Rebecca Zanetti's work, her characters are good and the description of post apocalyptic LA makes you feel as if your there. Roll on September for book 2 in The Scorpius Syndrome Series

Dean (6927 KP) rated The Last Ride (2004) in Movies

An ok film produced by the director of The Fast and the Furious. There are some good chase scenes but overall it does have a TV movie feel to it and obviously endorsed by Pontiac! Might not have enough car scenes and action to keep most petrol heads happy!

A finally got around to seeing this! Definitely one I would have enjoyed more as a kid I feel. The final part of the film is good as the kid fends off the burglars with home made traps. Just a bit of a slow build up until then.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to like this one because I do feel that it has some interesting, useful information.
However it contains blatant transphobia and I cannot in good conscience recommend it.

Hmm
I feel a little cheated with that ending but at least Mack and Corrigan got their HEA. Woohoo! A good ending to the series, despite my feelings. I mean, it couldn't really have ended any other way.
I look forward to reading more books by the author.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Rum, Sodomy, And The Lash: Expanded & Remastered by The Pogues in Music
May 6, 2020
Rolling Stone's 440th greatest album of all time
The Pogues' best known album featuring a number of good fun upbeat songs with a post-punk yet Irish folk feel. A mix of original songs, some traditional Irish folk songs and the famous version of the Dubliners' Dirty Old Town.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Blue Story (2019) in Movies

Good but could be better
So a film that caused some controversy when it was released, with gangs turning up to cinemas with knives resulting in it being pulled from most cinemas. The irony in that the film tries to highlight some causes of it and how stupid it is to get mixed up in. It does feel a lot like the recent Top Boy series, although not as good. Also featuring some of the main actors from that. Also a lot like @Kidulthood (2006) Some of the characters do just come across as very dumb and easily manipulated. Sadly some guys in gangs get caught up with some misguided idea of loyalty. It really didn't need the rap cameos from Rapman though, they just feel out of place. Overall the story is interesting and makes for a good film, but it will feel like you've seen it all before. It's not up to the quality of similar films.
