Fanny and Alexander (1982)
Fanny and Alexander (1982)
1982 | Drama, International

"Existential angst, black-and-white landscapes that feel cut out of slate and bone, quivering ruminations on mortality, and symbolic self-reflexive experimentation in film form-that’s all very masterful and inspiring and well and good, but I didn’t fall in love with Bergman until I discovered (via this box set) Fanny and Alexander. A rich adult fairy tale about how we use storytelling in our lives, not for pleasure alone."

"I put this on the list because I remember listening to it and thinking that there wasn’t anything that sounded as vital. There’s a see-saw of performance and song and this was all performance and you can feel the excitement on this recording. It’s an unusually good live number. Also Wayne Kramer from the band follows me on the Twitter machine, so in internet terms he’s my friend."

New Sound
This is not what I expected from The Vaccines. Their drop track Handsome didn't set up the right feel for this album. Honestly, I know so many Vaccines fans who don't care for this album and generally skip it in their discography. It's a good idea to explore sound, but I think this is a change from the sound we've all known and come to love.

I honestly only listened to this album because one of my friends got us tickets from her friend that was in the string trio, performing with Panic!. The last time I had listened to Panic! was when Pretty Odd came out.
All of the songs on this album are solid, catchy, and, for the most part, feel good. Obviously, hearing the album live was, of course, superior to the recorded version.

The graphics and editing is very good and the characters are well thought out, put together and very well played by each actor (1 more)
The story line is full of adventure, heart ache (at certain points) and many amazing fight scenes.
There may be parts where you feel as if it's not really needed. (0 more)
A fun watch
I enjoyed the movie overall and loved the characters throughout the movie.

Nice ideas ok execution
Good to see Sean William Scott doing something other than a fratboy comedy. Taking on a Dexter style role in this film as he works as a social worker at a college. Distributing his own brand of justice.
Low budget and it shows at times. Despite the short run time the film does feel quite slow. Not a bad thriller but could have been much better.

Solid feel good Christmas film
I enjoyed this Christmas film. It had magic, romance and drama. The acting was good and the storyline was a nice Christmas story line.
The main character will be familiar as Bonnie from The Vampire Diaries and as good an actor as she is, she is more annoying than likeable. That is the case in this film too. It's a shame, but the mistake she makes that causes the drama, seems like something a spoilt pentulant toddler would do. You take an instant dislike to her, not that you loved her from the off though.
Overall, I liked the idea and did enjoy the movie. Everyone needs a little magic at Christmas and The Holiday Calendar provides it.

Wasn't the strongest of stories that are like this
Good but had it's down sides
The film was adequate to what other films are out there in this general style, I loved the cast and the filming was good. However the film took a while to kick in and i found myself gorming at my phone more so than watching the film. I really enjoyed some of the story and the action scenes were okay, they could have done a lot more with the film, I feel as though it wasnt thought through as much as it could have been, but overall is a good thing to watch casually if you have the time, or even put it on in the background while you're doing something else.

This is my first time reading a book by Janice Carter and boy will I be reading more!

From the first page Janice Carter created a connection with her characters (and me) that I really enjoyed. It had a hint of mystery at the beginning, probably partially because I have not read the previous books in the series, but it intrigued me just the same. I liked the chemistry between Ben and Ella, the little flashbacks to days gone by was a special touch that let me feel like I had known the characters personal, and they had such good interactions with each other. Add in the good storyline and you have a recipe for a good relaxing evening (and if you are like me, wanting some hot chocolate to go with the book!
